“Nina Simone: The Montreux Years” demonstrates the singer's story, which is as multifaceted as it is radical. Starting with Nina's glamorous and emotional performance in 1968, through her fiery and unpredictable concert in 1976 (one of the most extraordinary performances in the history of the festival), the collection of recordings covers each of her five legendary Montreux shows from 1968, 1976, 1981 , 1987 and 1990 onwards.

It also contains rare and previously unpublished material from Claude Nobs' extensive archive collection (Montreux Sounds); Nina Simone fans will be particularly enthusiastic about the powerful "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free", the touching fearless "Four Women" and her hauntingly beautiful performance of "Ne Me Quitte Pas".

In addition to a haunting version of Janis Ian's powerful "Stars" (which Simone covered for the very first time during her performance in Montreux in 1976) there is a confident and gripping remake of Bob Marley's ballad "No Woman No Cry" from 1990. Yours The collection finds its crowning glory with the encore from Nina Simone's last appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival; one of her most popular and best-known songs - the exuberant “My Baby Just Cares For Me”, which reflects all facets of her life and her music.
