Description
Nirvana - In Utero LP - Mistakanly released IN 2003 and then withdrawn FULL STEVE ALBINI MIX!!!!!!
SHEEET!!!! I was about to sell this as a sealed 1993 copy of NIRVANA'S IN UTERO when i read about the Steve Albini release in 2003. I thought i would check out the matrix numbers before listing and LOW AND BEHOLD THE SACRED NUMBERS WERE PRESENT: A33 9124 536 S1 320, Catalogue: 424 536-1. Please keep on reading for the story of this release. The album was only opened to check the matrix numbers and so the record, sleeve and insert are entirely MINT!!!! IT IS STILL IN IT'S SHRINKWRAP (I NEVER GRADE THINGS MINT UNLESS THEY ARE UNPLAYED).
"...this is NOT the version of In Utero you're used to hearing. This one was pressed around 2003 for Geffen/Universal Music by a pressing plant in Germany and they used the wrong master tapes with the original Steve Albini Mix! It's 100% an official release and not a bootleg of any sort. Most of the changes are subtle tweaks but most notable is the guitar solo on " Heart-Shaped Box" (A song that was remixed by Scott Litt for the regular mix of the album) which has a crazy effect on it and you can tell it was something that made Geffen drop a brick in their pants to force the band to remix it for a single and video. Plus "All Apologies" (Another notable Scott Litt remix) has a more chaotic sound to it at the end.
In general this Mix has a heavier bass and drum sound, also some of the guitar parts have more noise in it. It's hard to really hear some of your favorite albums in a new light after they were recorded over a decade ago or when record companies get in the way, the way they were meant to be listened to, so I know for me owning this album is a real treat"
From Wikipedia's entry on Nirvana's In Utero Album:
- In 2003 what is believed to be the original Albini mix of In Utero was issued as a vinyl-only release by Universal Music in the UK. This is believed to be the result of a mistake at the factory when the wrong master tapes were used to have the album recut. The discs were manufactured in Germany. They can be indentified by the numbers A33 9124 536 S1 320 pressed into the deadwax, or the catalog numbers 424 536-1 on the disc.
