1979 No Magazine Flexi-Disc EVA-TONE
This was the special insert to, if memory serves, the fourth issue of the Chris Nelson/Phil Dray-published, No New York-era, No Magazine. What a rag that mag! I digress. The flexi-disc offered features Chris and Phil’s seminal and pre-The Scene Is Now group, Information, together on the reverse with their fellow Minneapolis ex-pats, the legendary NNB (Wave 7 "Slack" + Twin/Tone's Big Hits of Mid-America).
Song titles are INFORMATION: Translator; Alphabet (my favorite); NO GROUP: I Like Boys Who Say No; and NNB: Well, Oh Well. Line-ups at the time were for Information: Phil Dray, Chris Nelson and Rick Brown, later of Fish & Roses and Run-On fame. Jim Sclavunous (so spelled here instead of Sclavunos), later with Lydia Lunch’s 8-Eyed Spy and more recently Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, is credited along with “Delolio” on "I Like Boys Who Say No." On the NNB side: Mark Freeman (later of Red House), Jim Tollefsrud (Safety Last, Kevin Bowe's Revelators and The Front Porch Swinging Liquor Pigs), Dave Blessing and, interestingly enough, Dick Champ, who would subsequently team up with the aforementioned Nelson and Dray in The Scene Is Now for the Burn All Your Records, Total Jive and Tonight We Ride triptych. This is a unique piece, with plenty of No Wave Post-Punk history indeed. I acquired a short stack of these at the time and I believe none of them have ever been played.
Free secure shipping via USPS Media Mail, with all the attendant care that means your collectible flexi-disc will arrive intact and in same-as condition. Sorry, this auction is open to bidders in the US only. Please email with your questions.
