Description
Very rare Northern Soul 45, Jackey Beavers, " I need My Baby" on Revilot RV 208. This one is even more incredibly rare because it is autographed !!. I purchased this incredible find at an auction in Nashville, MI., which is about 25 miles from Battle Creek, MI., where Jackey got his start playing at a club called the " El Grotto" in 1959. ( Jr. Walker and the All Stars were the house band. ). This record was in a lot of about 100 in a metal basket. I was interested in this group because there were some Sun 45"s, and some Beatles also. Most were not in sleeves, some were in very rough shape, so it's amazing this Jackey Beavers is in pretty good shape.
What a nice suprise I got after finding the value of this RARE gem. It wasn't untill a month later, when cataloging this group, that I was looking at the small print on the label with a magnifing glass, when I discovered the words in pen, " To Sherrie " above the hole, and " Jackey Beavers " below the hole on the label. ( the lables have such wild colors, I didn't notice the writing at first. see photos.) This was probably a mother and daughters collection as there were many country records in with some Beatles, and Elvis. I will include one of the other records that has a address lable on it with the Battle Creek, Mi. address. I have only seen 3 other records like this on E-bay, NOT ONE AUTOGRAPHED !!. I have talked to a few long time record sellers, at record shows, and they agreed that autographs signed to a person, are more likley to be legitimate. ( they both offered to hook me up with a record broker if I wanted to sell it ).
I would grade the vinyl and lables as VG. Both lables have light wear, the vinyl has good luster on both sides, and a few scratches although the " I need my baby " side has more, and some strange lines on it ( see photos ). I have seen these lines on records in the past, and they generally do not effect the sound quality. This side would grade VG-. I have not played the record, as I am in the process of having my turntable repaired, or I may replace it, with a new one. This may be a once in a lifetime oppertunity, but I have a low opening bid, and a modest reserve. I will package the records very carefully with plenty of bubble wrap, paper and plastic sleeve for each record, foam pieces, ect.

Friends, I have played the record on a Technics Direct Drive turntable with a Stanton 681 EEE cartrige and stylus ( new stylus ). Both sides played through with no skips or jumps. There is not much groove wear as the sound is not distorted. The bass and vocals are very dynamic. The " I need my baby " side however, has slight " Pop " that runs through the song. It does not overwelm the music, but during the last few seconds, and the " Trail Off ", its a bit louder. The other side is clearly better, not much unwanted noise at all. The record should professionally cleaned. Over all , its a very desireable rare soul record, and with the autograph, it may be the most rare of all.
