‘O’ LEVEL – East Sheen * ORIG Psycho Records 45 / PSYCHO 1 (UK, Stereo, 1978)
CURRENTLY LISTED: OTHER 1970s UK PUNK 45s – SOME VERY RARE ITEMS. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK!
Happy to present this early, pre-Television Personalities single featuring Ed Ball and John & Gerrard Bennett. Classic DIY punk release presented here in the ‘schoolboy’ sleeve (honestly don’t know which sleeve design is the ‘rarest’ – they were probably all pressed in the same numbers!). Anyhow, this homemade sleeve is in great condition and the vinyl’s not far behind.
The sleeve is the original folded sheet sellotaped on to a plain white inner. Not sure why the top and bottom edges were serrated (like the edges of an old brown paper bag) but considering the whole thing’s fragile nature, it’s survived incredibly well. There’s NO scribbles, no tears or rips, no nasty creasing, no stains or residue. The tape has browned over time (inevitable) and has come away from the rear side of the foldover. Light label ring impression (near invisible) but no other faults/signs of age. An unusual DIY sleeve which has stood the test of time brilliantly (even the serrated edge is mainly sharp). So at least worthy of a proper EX (Excellent) in my book.
The blue ‘Psycho’ labels are near perfect. No writing, rips or stickers and I can’t make out any spindle traces either. Nice pair!
The vinyl is a lovely copy, well preserved. It shows one faint, longish scuff to the ‘Pseudo Punk’ side and a couple of dust pockets (easily removable) but that’s about it. NO scratches or hairlines and no nasty embedded dirt. Many would grade close to mint but I’ll go with a visual EX (Excellent). IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays great – so expect NO snap, pop, repetitive clicks, distortion or lack of definition. Play grade at least matches the visual one – a great listen.
Overall, a really well preserved copy of this super rare early 45 – not much room for upgrade here. F.A.B!
