Oasis : (What's The Story) Morning Glory? A1/B1/C2/D2 1st Damont Press 1995
This genuine first press plays to the highest standard possible with no interference. This album was so popular when first released so understandably were heavily played. Not this one! The vinyls (and the cover) have been so well preserved and only lightly played based on the audio and the minimal spindle wear. This pressing plays loud and true and with a clarity and depth that cannot be underestimated. This is 100% a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic and as you can see from my audio grading below you could not find a version that plays better than this one, the sonic quality is just incredible! The vinyls are also visually stunning with a pristine finish.
This multi-fold cover has clearly not been handled very much and remains in superb condition with only the bare minimum of wear. The 'solid' black inner sleeves are also in great shape. They both have a pvc inner which has no doubt helped the records maintain their original sonic quality and 'visual look'. It's hard to believe this pressing is fast approaching 30 years of age!
A first press is denoted by the matrix info and that it has DAMONT etched onto each run out groove.

Visual description
The vinyls are in beautiful condition with an immaculate jet-black jet-black glossy sheen and have no marks or scratches. All I can find under a strong light are a small number of the usual faint sleeve removal hairlines. There is no groove or surface wear and the labels are also unmarked with only very minimal spindle wear.
Play grading
The run in on S1 has no background so already you're thinking this vinyl has hardly ever been removed from its sleeve! The acoustic intro on 'Hello' is nigh on perfect with only a handful of barely audible dust ticks. As the volume ramps up the playback is 'as new' and the first verse and chorus are just as strong. One of the first thing you notice about the Damont press is just how loud it was recorded and on a clean vinyl such as this the power and resonance of the music really does blast through the speakers with stunning precision and no distortion. It proceeds in the same way - the audio is really so strong and deep - and that is also very much in evidence during the instrumental end section. This is a Mint start to this classic album, mega quiet dust ticks don't count!
'Roll With It' more than keeps up this high end standard with immense power and depth from start to finish and... no interference. The clarity is comparable to an un-played record and Mint is again deserved.
The acoustic intro on 'Wonderwall' plays beautifully with only a couple of dust ticks (again so so quiet) and the opening vocal section could not play any better. It continues to play with audio that can only be described 'as new' whereby each and every note is so clean and precise. Gallagher's vocal is flawless and the end instrumental is just perfect, even the acoustic outro has no background. A Mint conclusion to a stunning side of music.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The piano intro on 'Don't Look Back In Anger' has no intrusion and the opening two verses play with STUNNING clarity and the same applies to the first chorus. The next verse is just as clean and it continues to play with outstanding clarity and power right to the end. A classic track for sure and a Mint one I am pleased to say :-)
The 'heavy' intro on 'Hey Now' is fantastic! Never heard better. From then on the sonic quality is so strong and there are no negatives. Loud and true throughout this is powerful audio at its very best. No interference, just pure Mint audio from start to finish. Wow what a version!
'0.44' plays perfectly and then 'Bonehead's Bank Holiday' completes the side with superb audio. Is there a hint of inner groove distortion? If so it is so minor and totally insignificant. There is no interference and Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not surprisingly 'Some Might Say' plays with the same level of power and depth as the preceding tracks. In fact I've just been reading up on the album and it actually states the producer Morris was partly responsible for the loudness war! Once again the playback cannot be faulted and the fade out has only a couple of light ticks at the end. Still a Mint version.
The acoustic intro on 'Cast No Shadow' is 'as new' and the same can be said for the rest of the track. I heard just one mega faint tick but honestly it's so quiet you could easily miss it! Mint
'She's Electric' plays with exceptional audio and of course no interference. I won't be lazy and mention any Beatles connection (!!) and needless to say it plays with sublime clarity throughout. Mint
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The entire intro on 'Morning Glory' is stunning! I cannot fault it and the opening vocal is just as good. From then on it plays with genuine power and depth and... no interference. This follows a theme and grades as Mint
'0.39' is equal to that and then the final track, the classic 'Champagne Supernova' plays with great clarity from the outset. The quiet intro and opening vocal play to perfection and as the volume increases the quality is still there. As per earlier if there is any inner groove distortion it is kept to an absolute minimum and as I often say it should not be downgraded because of that, this is vinyl after all. In a sense you cannot escape it with this album precisely because it was recorded so loud but in saying that this is a superb version and you can turn it up to max for sure. The vocals are so clean and there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static... just like the rest of the album! A sensational Mint- version to end the album with.
In summary this very first pressing plays with STUNNING quality across all four sides with NO interference of any kind. Obviously it sold in huge amounts but there won't be any that play better than this one even sealed ones! The clarity, depth and power of the audio is exceptional and is a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic. Hardly played with audio to match. The cover and inner sleeves are also in lovely condition as detailed below.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeves
The multi-fold cover has been very preserved and has retained its original shape and structure perfectly which can only mean it has not been handled very much. The edges have hardly any rubbing and the only 'real wear' is a little creasing / wear near the bottom corner of the spine and a minimal amount at the top. The other corners are in superb shape with barely any wear - the inside panel just has one minor crease on the corner. The front and back cover are immaculate and the inside of the 'gatefold' is also super clean with no marking. A stunning example overall which definitely deserves a Near Mint- grading.
The two glossy black inners are in superb condition also. The first one just has a tiny tear / 'nick' on the thumb notch.
