Yuji Ohno brought Japanese Saturday-evening futurism with this highly original digital funk soundtrack, originally written for the Captain Future anime from way back in 1979 and long out of vinyl print. He applies a similar instinct here as that wielded on Lupin The Third, where a real retro thrust meets unfazeable vocals over a proto-future-funk slice of anything but space junk. Slap-bass propulsion, elastic Rhodes lines and clipped brass figures, moving briskly from cosmic chase themes to late-night comedowns, abounding on 'Andromeda No Kanata', 'Oyasumi Future Men' and 'Ijigen No Eden', wringing the best sonic potential of that era's craze for pulpy adventure.
