Description
THE MASTER of wry country humor was CHARLES ROSS TAGGART, "The Old Country Fiddler." There's a lot more talk than fiddling on his records, especially this one, which is all talk. But his subjects are quite intriguing, especially the first: "THE OLD COUNTRY FIDDLER ON ASTRONOMY" and "THE OLD COUNTRY FIDDLER AT THE TELEPHONE."
On "Astronomy," he waxes philosophical: "To think of all them planets and solar systems and Zodiacs and Meridians and constellations and - - what SEEMED to be the hardest to see through was why there warn't no end to anything! When you've got clean out to the edge, you've just begun!" That's some powerful cracker-barrel cogitating.
Given the choice of Charles Ross Taggart vs. Cal "Uncle Josh" Stewart, there's no contest. Stewart was a joke machine with a built-in laugh-track. Taggart is a thinker, disguised as a country yokel.
This original 1916 "Bat Wing" Victor 18148 is in clean E condition. The ugly stickers on the label should come off with a little "Goo Gone."
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!
