Here for offer we have an original 1961 stereo pressing of Oliver Nelson's jazz classic "The Blues And The Abstract Truth" on Impulse Records. Features some of the biggest names in jazz (Bill Evans, Paul Chambers, Freddie Hubbard, Eric Dolphy, Roy Haynes and Oliver Nelson), recorded and mastered by Rudy Van Gelder (record has the "RVG STEREO" stamp in the runout of both sides). This is the true first pressing, with the original "abstract art" front cover, original text font and size on the back cover, original inner gatefold photo of metal man statue with microphone, and the original "A PRODUCT OF AM-PAR RECORD CORP" credit on the labels.
The gatefold jacket is in VG condition due to shelf wear, the lamination on the cover coming up in various spots around the edges (VERY common for these old Impulse titles), a spot of the spine that looks like the lamination got chipped off and took a bit of the paper underneath with it, ringwear on inner gatefold and water staining on the bottom of the inner gatefold. Despite how horrible all that sounds, the jacket actually looks good, spine is straight, colors are still vibrant and all text is legible.
The record is in G+ condition due to excessive scratches and scuffs, groove wear, all of which cause noise but doesn't cause any skipping or repeating on the record (I took pictures of the record both with and without flash - without flash so you can see the labels clearly, and with flash so you can see the imperfections on the record's surface clearly). I have cleaned this record and played it multiple times, and it plays through with no issue (other than the noise). If you have a high end record cleaning device, you may be able to yield better playback results from this, although I think this is just a 60 year old well-loved record, so that's how it sounds.
In short, if you have a good copy of this record but your cover is trashed, get this for the cover. If you have a copy of this record in worse shape than this one, get this for the record. Or get this if you've just been trying to fill that longstanding void in your collection. The low start price reflects the condition, so if you just want an original copy for cheaper than the current going rate, this is your ticket.
