Description
This is a pair of US-released 45 rpm 7" vinyl promotional records by Olivia Newton-John of her cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” released in 1973 on MCA Records.
MCA-40043.
This is actually the very first single Olivia released in the US on the MCA label, which would release most of her music in the US for the next two decades. This particular title was not printed in high quantities, so these have been scarce and can be quite hard to find.
These are the white label promo versions MCA sent out to radio stations, hence the “not for sale” notices printed on them.
(Included here is a xerox - NOT an actual clipping - of a photo of Olivia at a radio station in LA promoting this very song.)
Promo records have become highly collectible, and this is a chance to own BOTH the variants MCA printed for this title:
— the Pinckneyville pressing (with the song title printed above the center)…
— and the Gloversville pressing (with Olivia’s name printed above the center).
The Pinckneyville pressing is VG with visible scratches and scuffs present on the vinyl, as well as some rubbing marks on the label and some age spotting.
The Gloversville pressing is VG to VG+. This vinyl actually looks excellent, and so does the stereo side label. It loses points, though, for some tape damage to the label on the mono side.
Please see photos! All are of the exact items you will receive, and I have tried to show any noticeable flaws.
While they may not be in perfect condition, they’re still pretty nice, and this is a great chance to get both of these rare variations at once.
Both come in plain white paper sleeves, as well as protective plastic covers.
These records have not been play tested. They are offered more for their collectibility than playability.
These promo records would make a great addition to any music collection or to an Olivia Newton-John collection.
