A late-night session with a Tascam 388 led to the quick, mind-of-its-own self-titled Olympians release on Daptone in 2016, establishing the Brooklynite's knack for highly vinyl-dusted, fantasy-funk instrumentals, a top stylistic sell indeed. In Search Of A Revival clocks the same speeds a decade later, as project founder Toby Panzer enlists now a 17-strong cast of both long-term friends and new faces. The Curtis Mayfield- and James Brown-influenced pull of the debut loosens here, eking room for Wrecking Crew gloss, Gold Star Studio drama and hints of film score tension, with Greek myth motifs woven through brass, rhythm and shadow.
