Description
Omo the Hobo was a one-of-a-kind traveling troubadour and is said to have played all 50 states during a career which lasted more than 40 years. Also known as Omo the Lobo and Smiley Joe Omohundro, he was born in 1917 on the family farm located near Fayette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. A singer, guitarist and songwriter, Omo recorded hundreds of 45 rpm singles, beginning about 1960. He first recorded for the Accent label and later for his own Omo the Hobo imprint. He sold the records at bars and nightclubs around the country for a $1 or $2 donation. The singles were pressed in small quantities and later collected onto albums. Today these records are very hard to come by. Omo died in 1996 at Marquette, Mich.
This record is party record number number 3, it has a nude young lady wearing a cowboy hat riding a horse on the cover. 19 original songs. Plain white back. It is still sealed in it's original plastic.
We have owned a record store for 27 years and sometimes Omo would just show up and walk around our store and serenade our customers.
