Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. •  USA - PRIVATE PRESS

Very RARE Original 1971 PRIVATE PRESS released by the band of their only 200 made second album.

  • The "200 quantity" first press is distinctive as it has paste-on artwork, both front and back cover.

  • As well, the record labels are blank, total black vinyl, black label centers, as pictured. Obviously extremely scarce, about one's only hope to find an original would be to find a copy in the city it was issued in, 48 years ago, Austin Texas.

From Austin, Texas, Shiva's Headband was formed in 1967 by Spencer Perskin who, after spending time playing in San Francisco, returned to Austin where he soon formed his own band, Shiva's Headband which soon gained notoriety and a strong fan base thanks to their sharing the stage with big names like Spirit, Steppenwolf, Steve Miller, Janis Joplin, Canned Heat and so many more alike. Only 200 copies of Coming To A Head, the band's second album, were originally released, making it very hard to come by.

Shiva's Headband's fluid and delicate "cosmic cowboy" psychedelic sound with the ever-present violin and vocal parts in perfect harmony makes it the band's best work.

When talking about psychedelic hippie bands from the sixties, are you speaking of a butterfly elusive term that defies definition? Shiva's Headband fused rural and rock well before the "cosmic cowboy" tag was applied to the pioneering groups of that genre, Gram Parsons and The Byrds (Sweetheart Rodeo) and Gram Parsons + The Flying Burrito Brothers first two Lps. Shiva's Headband, though obviously psychedelic hippies in visible appearance never compromised their "cosmic cowboys" headwinds. The phrase "roots rock" wouldn't become music lexicon until the Eighties. Were Shiva's Headband ever psychedelic? leader Spencer Perskin hesitates only a moment. "We took a lot of psychedelics, and I let the music tell me where it wanted to go."

This is the follow-up to their much heralded "Take Me To The Mountains." The band put this out themselves after being dropped from Capitol records roster. According to The Acid Archives, both the 1971 original, and the 1980 reissue, had the same cover artwork. However, the original had a past-on front cover image, along with a paste-on, type-written track list on the back, while the reissue had the image printed onto the cover.
The music is similar to their first, with rural flavored rock and features electric violin, and some strong electrified guitar work.

  •   CONDITION:

  1. The cover: rated:  VG the thick white backing cover has, rather visible use, light age spotting visible from nearly 50 years since the day of its tiny release. Has 3 rough edges, but no split seams, the paste on front and back designs are very clean. It would be hard to find a better copy. The center paste on art work is "EX" grade: CLEAN. There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, no rips, and no writing ...

  1. The vinyl: Rated: near VG++ and better, this is actually a very shiny - clean record, only lightly played by original owner, the pressing has more to do with the grade having some very tiny scuffs but have to see in bright light to detect. Play grade reflected excellent audio results! Both label centers are completely black and blank as issued by the band in 1971

A cool addition to anyone's music library!
