mint top copy :::::

Recorded in 1973, the album is from the Reggae legends, The Wailers. "Catch A Fire" established the band as international superstars. Leader Bob Marley in particular became world-famous. The socially aware lyrics and militant tone surprised many listeners, but others were attracted to Marley and Peter Tosh's confrontational subjects and optimistic view of a future free from oppression.

The Wailers' "Catch A Fire" (1973) was the first reggae album that most listeners outside of Jamaica ever heard. The group had been together in some form for a decade and had enjoyed a long series of Jamaican hit singles. They had also moved easily from r&b to ska before becoming one of the earliest reggae acts. Although Bob Marley wrote and sang most of the songs, it was by no means his band. Peter Tosh also was a major contributor, and Marley, Tosh and Bunny Livingston (a/k/a Bunny Wailer) had been bandmates from the beginning, and their vocal blend was striking and beautiful.

The treble heavy Catch A Fire is possibly the single greatest reggae album of all time. Bring the first major release from the Wailers it serves as the truest sounding record in the groups entire catalogue. Many will argue that Exodus is their strongest, and while that is a flawless album it fails miserably in comparison to Catch A Fire.

With legendary members Bunny Wailer and the forever angry Peter Tosh still in the group the line-up was at their peak here. Peter Tosh especially shines on his horribly terrific guitar solo on 'Stir It Up' which was the only major single of the album. In the following years both would leave to become two of the biggest names in popular reggae but would never outshine their early work with the Wailers.

As for Bob Marley, he got an early start on his trench town rebellion here on Catch A Fire. '400 Years' 'Slave Driver' and 'Concrete Jungle' tell tales of oppression. 'Stop That Drain' speaks of a higher power while 'Baby We've Got A Date' and 'Kinky Reggae' grooves so nicely that we are reminded of what a womanizer Marley was.

Catch A Fire is truly flawless and an album for all moods. One of those releases that as tremendously cliche as it is must be heard before it can truly be appreciated for the majestic power it has.
