Description
ORANGE JUICE - Falling and Laughing / Moscow 7" P/S including "I Wish I Was a Postcard" Flexi.
This copy was owned by Edwyn Collins originally and is signed by the great man himself. I aquired this copy from a Scottish gentleman named Davy, who very kindly told me the story of how he managed to get hold of this record (Please read below). Before Edwyn's illness, I forwarded a copy of the script below to confirm it's authenticity. After a couple of weeks, he replied stating that the story was indeed true and that I hadn't purchased a dud.
Davy's Script:
"I worked an a STEP (Special Temporary Employment Programme) when I was a callow youth in 1979/80. The building at 302 Buchan Street in Glasgow was used by the City Parks Dept. for this and it was basically full of young rebels and old duffers who couldn't get a job anywhere else!
Edwyn worked in the Conservation Department - he was good at drawing - as did Dave McClymont. Edwyn was an intensely shy guy - very nervous - but obviously brave enough to front the band. I can still remember the Whistle Test 'Rip It Up' when his guitar strap breaks! There were 3 or 4 different bands in the building -I recall throwing a l0p piece from the upper floor window at Aztec Camera who were busking outside - they obviously knew Edwyn and Orange Juice as well.
Anyway - he actually gave the signed single to a woman called Cecelia Meiklejohn who worked in the same dept as him - she was one of the 'oldies' and while she appreciated the gesture, she was friendly with me and thought that someone of my age might be more in tune with the modem sound - so she quietly passed it on to me! I worked in the photocopying dept - wish I had kept all those drawings that Edwyn asked us to copy - all with a signature on them too! Ah well - at least I can say I met him before he was famous."ONLY 963 COPIES ORIGINALLY MADE
EXTREMELY RARE!!!

I am selling my collection of Postcard records to create some space in my house. A shame but needs must.
Please see my other Postcard items. I hope they go to a good home. Please see Aztec Camera and Josef K.
P.S. I have re-listed this item due to some misleading info in my original description. I have been reliably informed that Edwyn personally gave away more than one copy of the single, so it is not the only copy he owned which I stated in the original listing. Please accept my apologies.
