ORCHESTRATIONS ASTROMANTIC -
Rca Direct-Master Series Limited Edition Direct-to-Disc RDCE-6 –
Japanese Pressing -
ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY STUNNING!
This record, I must tell you, is in a class by itself. I dare say, it is the best record I have ever heard of an orchestra, bar none, it making me say, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" every note of the way.
Part of the wonderful Rca direct-to-disc series out of Japan, the concept here is absolutely stunning and will have you on the edge of your listening chair. Tadaaki Otaka has the Tokyo Phil in full stride, playing pieces we all love but recorded in part and beautifully…the dynamics to-die-for, the definition astounding. In effect, he records what he wants to hear as an audiophile.
Just listen to the program here:
Side 1: A medley comprised of the intro to ALSO SPRACH ZARATHUSTRA, TARA'S THEME from "Gone With The Wind," CONCIERTO DE ARANJUEZ (just the second movement), ending with STAR WARS: TITLE THEME & PRINCESS LEIA.
(I must tell you, at an audiophile meeting we didn't go on to side 2 but played side 1 again…after the standing ovation and applause.)
Side 2 isn't slumming, let me tell you, with Suppe's LIGHT CAVALRY, Massenet's THAIS-MEDITATION, and Wagner's PRELUDE to "Die Meistersinger." (Darn near leaves you breathless.)
An extraordinary demonstration disc, of the highest caliber, that time and again delivers some of the best sound you have ever heard, anywhere, from anyone. Put another way: If you have an athletic hi-fi system, this is the protein drink.
One of the top five jaw-droppers of all time, absolutely, positively, without question.
Jacket is without fault, crisp; record within will play near mint. (Be sure to read the notes. Way cool.)

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $4 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
