RARE and sought 1969 Original first pressing vinyl on the obscure Parallax label ...The SACRED MUSHROOM were a cool old hard edged blues garage crew who made only this one collectible well worthy of tracking down, if not for the jams that brew inside, then for the eye-dazzling psychedelic cover visuals...one is all and all is one ...

Sacred Mushroom were a short-lived rock/blues quintet based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their efforts coalesce on this, the band's self-titled debut (and only) long-player. The album contains a blend of proficient originals as well as a pair of well-chosen takes on the blues standards "Mean Old World" and the Kinks' "I'm Not Like Everybody Else." While their name conjures images of late-'60s psychedelic or acid rock, Sacred Mushroom's roots were decidedly more bluesy than trippy. Likewise, their harder-edged performance style is well served by the tight and somewhat jam-driven arrangements, resembling artists such as the Allman Joys, Kak, or the pre-Blue Öyster Cult Stalk-Forrest Group. A few of the original tunes are certifiably lost classics. These include the up-tempo rocker "Catatonic Lover," which features some lyrical chord changes reminiscent of "3/5's of a Mile in 10 Seconds" by Jefferson Airplane, and the Chicago blues-style waltz "All Good Things Must End." The latter is highlighted by some inspired harp playing from Rusty Work. The opening track, "I Don't Like You," is a cool rocker spotlighting the Goshorn Brothers' tight harmonies as well as Larry's distinctive lead electric guitar licks. Another standout is their reworking of "I'm Not Like Everybody Else." The track retains a timeless pop sensibility that incorporates interweaving acoustic and electric guitar lines. "Lifeline," the most extended track on the LP, recalls the electric blues of seminal Fleetwood Mac or Stan Webb's Chicken Shack. Along the same lines is the blues boogie rendering of "Mean Old World," which might easily be mistaken for an obscure version by a mid-'60s lineup of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. All said, much stronger than remembered and should delight the lot of you....

CONDITION: The Cover: solid all over, still with the bright original colors, has a little bit of shelf wear but really nothing you can't live with, it's not mint but not far behind at VG++ and the back group cover is near excellent ...there are no split saeams, no writing and is a keeper collectible with no need to upgrade unless a mint one falls into your hands, which it won't cheaply, the LP a long sought & highly rated collectible is generally expen$ive...

The Vinyl: hard one to grade...have it 'on' right now ...playing most excellent, there is a little bit of very random low surface here or there, (not bothersome at all) and the music is bright and powerful...visually VG(+) with numerous light top surface hairline scuffs, there's only one feelable hairline and still at worse something you can barely (mean barely) hear...the play grade is rather outstanding near excellent...thoroughly enjoyable and vastly clean audio. The Parllax labels are both clean...

A cool addition to anyone's music library!
