Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. EARLY 1975 FIRST PRINT, A HIGHLY SOUGHT TOP LEVEL COLLECTIBLE BY UNDERGROUND PSYCH-ROCK BAND "YA HO WAH 13" ... The album features two side long tracks interwoven within one another by merging tracks of the improvised jam nature...
"To the Principles for the Children" was the last Ya Ho Wah 13 album to feature Father Yod, and, along with their two previous albums, Penetration and I'm Gonna Take You Home, drives home to those listening that Ya Ho Wa 13 were one of the most righteous American psychedelic underground rock bands of all time. Such was their intensity that they were totally ignored during their brief life time and are only in recent past years beginning to make their presence felt.
The album begins with one of Ya Ho Wah 13's most rockin' track that they ever recorded - an ode to womanhood that is a quite impressive album-opener. Father Yod comes on like he's Elvis Presely's long-lost psychedelic step-brother, grabbing the mic with the intensity of a God figurehead. The bass and drums are low in the mix, pumping out a tribal groove. By the time the song is nearing the end, Yod is just drooling his words out, spilling them all over the listener, drenching the listener with his sweat. If you thought the vocal in the track "Hero" by 'NEU' was out there, you need to hear the final minute of this.
Then on to one of Ya Ho Wah 13's more beautiful moments. This song, along with the ending of side one on their album "Expansion," show that Ya Ho Wah 13 were much more than just a psychedelic freak-out band; they were equally capable of moments of great beauty. "I can be subtle" Father Yod sings, in stark contrast to the insane frenzy he had worked himself up to on the previous song. Djin Aquarian plays his guitar all amazingly loose and spacious and heavy on the reverb. (A fantastic guitarist, Djin is the equivalent to Germany's Manuel Gottsching (Ash Ra Tempel). We can think of no other guitarist who is able to create such cosmic bliss with his instrument.
Father Yod's voice is way up in the mix, as is typical for most Ya Ho Wah releases. "I have come to show you the way" he sings, becoming a direct medium for a higher force. Moments like this make the listener wonder if there is some truth to Yod's claims of being God, or if he is simply insane. Granted, when he's out-there like this, Yod's vocal delivery takes some getting used to; the first few times may seem like too much, but once you get into it, Yod's rants will start to make sense.
Right when Yod is really going overboard, i.e. right when you begin to wonder if you are hearing the second coming, the drums kick in and Djin plays a totally kicking riff while Father starts chanting "God Bless America" over and over. Ya Ho Wah 13 can really only be compared with the German Krautrock scene, but throughout it all, they still managed to keep their vibe 100% American.
The side ends with Yod singing "Now I'm ready to die for I know why I am here" These words, like much of what Yod sings, would prove to be prophetic as later in the same year of this record's release Yod would die from a hand-gliding accident.
Side two starts with Father Yod singing really nice. It is times like this that make the previous Elvis Presely comparison valid. Like Elvis, Yod could express a wide range of emotion in his voice. True, Yod usually chose to scream as loud as he can, but when he does actually sing it is really quite beautiful and silky.
Out of nowhere, a broken trumpet plays an out of tune riff and the band begins one of their most holey burn-outs, similar to what they achieved on their "Penetration." Lp. "Awaken Awaken" Father Yod commands, as Djin's guitar gets all echoed, filling the speakers with cosmic gladness. Yod gives out one of his trademark cowboy yelps while Octavious pounds a steady rhythm and Sunflower, their bassist, stays low. Meanwhile Djin uses his guitar to erupt all over himself, burning the listener with raw sexuality. Right when the speakers start to melt, the track cuts to the sound of children singing "Oh Ya Ho Wa we love you." Weird but charming. Ya Ho Wah 13 were basically a cult/commune type of thing, and here the kids are singing praise to their lord. The good news is that unlike some cults, mass suicide wasn't on the agenda. Instead, these guys were quite content with finding their inner God by freaking out in an acid-rock context.
As Father Yod explains at the beginning of this platter: "I mean, it can't be perfect, can it?" .....No, but it can be damn close.
There are just two side-long tracks, simply titled "Side A" and "Side B,"
CONDITION: The cover: rated: VG++ to "EX" (excellent) trace of wear, see photo, the cover should fit in with any collection. After 40+ years has a strong appearance -- there are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing ... VERY collection worthy rarity ...
The vinyl: Rated: visually VG++ appears vastly clean; few soft-looking LIGHT hairlines, nothing that looks even near bad & mainly top surface. Play grade revealed mostly clean audio play though noted some surface ticks/light crackle along the way - more so due to the nature of the fragile vinyl production, being a private press. Both 'Higher Key" labels are clean
