This is one of the Rarest of the early RCAs and especially in this condition. Catalog # LSC-2285, matrix #'s 1/S 1/S brings The British Decca team out in style to record Anatole Fistoulari, conducting the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden. The only other time Fistoulari was recorded by RCA was on LSC-2400, which is another rare classic. Walton's "Facade, Suites for Orchestra", and Lecocq's "Suite from the Ballet Mam'zelle Angot" are stunningly performed on this record. The Decca team is the same as "Witches Brew". This record is great from one end to the other. The high end is as good as it gets on any RCA. Great snap, detail and transparency of the percussion.  The midrange is likewise just as clear. Only a few RCA's such as "Witches Brew" and "Gaite Parisian" have this midrange richness. The brass and the woodwinds are also stunning in every respect. The bass is deep and thunderous. I would venture to say this is one of the blockbuster recordings from a great label.

"RCA Living Stereo" recordings - mostly classical, but also a handful of pop and easy listening titles - were made under the supervision of the most knowledgeable technicians and engineers on earth. The sound is simply amazing. On  mint or near mint copies , quiet passages are so quiet - and the surface noise so conspicuously absent - that you will not even realize that your stylus has hit the surface of the record until the music starts. The highs are high, and the lows are very low. You are going to need a subwoofer and a hypersensitive tweeter to express some of these tonal ranges appropriately. This is the music for the ears, heart, soul, mind and guts alike.

·      THE RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)         The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                          THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2  (front side) and 3 (back side)

-       Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a small quality control (inspection) stamp on the back panel

-       Minor shelf wear noted on the top and bottom seams (nothing significant)
