Description
'Creators of Jazz' - The Original Dixieland Jazz Band spent over a year in England in 1919-20 and in that time recorded 9 12" sides for the English Columbia company. They are a revelation in that they are much more relaxed and swinging than the carefully controlled and 'factory produced' style engineered by Victor. This one is 'Soudan' (a tune previously recorded as 'Oriental Jass' on Aeolian Vocalion in 1917) on Columbia 829. Reverse is 'Me-Ow' played by the London Dance Orchestra, which gives a good idea of how dance music was played in England BEFORE the ODJB came to town! As these sides were never issued in the USA until the age of LPs, they will be a revelation to most collectors! CONDITION: A very clean and shiny EE- with just a few very fine scuffs and odd scratches. Reserve is $75
