Description
OK, Holy Grail seekers - here it is!
Up for bid - an original pressing of Big Star's penultimate classic, Radio City - with a complete Ardent Studios press kit. The entire package is housed in the original Ardent promo folder it was shipped out in to djs, promoters, distributors, and reviewers.
And the reviewers got it - this record along with it's debut predecessor #1 Record were both met with rave reviews form the likes of Rolling Stone, Phonograph Record, Billboard, and Record World magazines. However, Big Star remained the best kept secret in the music world and the rest is history, as they say.
When Radio City was released in 1974, reviewers immediately declared it to be one of the best records of the year. Ardent studios seized on the opportunity and printed out copies of the positive reviews along with a band biography and a newsstand copy of the March 74' Fusion magazine that included a write-up on the band and the new album. They put it all into a promo kit along with a copy of the album itself which was labeled PROMOTIONAL COPY - NOT FOR SALE on the front cover.
Now you have the opportunity to go back in time 40 years and receive your own copy of this promo package. Here's what you'll get:
- The original pressing promo copy of Radio City - the media appears to be unplayed. I rarely give a NM+ grade to an album that is out of the cellophane but I do so for this copy without hesitation. The cover shows almost no wear, only some natural discoloration from age and a tiny 1/32" cutout common on promo albums - it's so small you could easily miss it. The original Stax line-up inner is included and also in Near Mint condition.
- The original copy of the March 74' Fusion magazine that included a write-up on the band - VG+ condition with natural discoloration from age
- The original 4-page stapled Big Star biography on Ardent Studios letterhead
- The original Radio City promo sell-sheet printed on green cardstock featuring excerpts from various rave reviews
- The original Phonograph Record magazine write-up of the now legendary Big Star live show from the Rock Writer's Convention held over the 1973 Memorial Day weekend in Memphis, TN. The write-up by Mike Saunders was published in July 73' and was photocopied from the magazine by the Ardent publicity team for inclusion in the press kit.
- The original March 74' Phonograph Record magazine album review written by Bud Scoppa and re-printed on blue cardstock by Ardent for inclusion in the promo kit.
- The original Billboard magazine "Talent in Action" review of Big Star's show at New York's famous Max's Kansas City. Written by Sam Sutherland and re-printed by Ardent for inclusion in the press kit.
- The original January 73' Rolling Stone review of Big Star's debut #1 Record. It was written by Bud Scoppa and re-printed in its entirety by Ardent along with glowing reviews of the same album from Billboard (Sept. 72'), Cash Box (Sept. 72'), and Record World (April 73').
You get the picture - This kit is all original, complete, and shipped to you in the original Ardent promo folder. The record will be shipped in a new high-quality inner and outer sleeve and the kit will be shipped safe and secure in a corrugated record mailer.
