My grandmother was a great patron of the arts until her death in 1976. She purchased this oil painting of Joan Sutherland in the mad scene from Lucia Di Lammermoor at a charity benefit in New York around 1969-70. It is a wonderful depiction of both Ms. Sutherland and the characters costume from that staging. I think it was at the Met but am not positive about this. All those I could ask are gone now. I have always disliked the tawdry frame but never got around to having it reframed. Perhaps you will. It deserves better. The painting measures 35” by 13” and hung in the foyer of my grandmother’s house on Brattle Street in Cambridge and has never been exposed to direct sunlight. I am moving to a much smaller accommodation and several works of art simply have no room to be displayed. Time marches on. I hope you find this painting as enjoyable as I have over these many years. I will pack it well and insure it as I want it to continue to give pleasure to those viewing it for many more years. Thank you very much for your interest and for reading this somewhat pedantic text.
