ORNETTE COLEMAN QUARTET This is our music VINYL LP (Japan) Atlantic SMJ-7003 (1962 – Very rare stereo version of first Japanese pressing in flip-back cover. Doesn't turn up often outside of Japan itself.)
This classic album came from two July 1960 sessions and was released in the U.S. in late 1960 or early 1961. It was Coleman’s fifth album, and his third for Atlantic where his innovative free jazz approach and his rejection of predetermined chord progressions was finally becoming accepted by jazz critics. The line-up here is Coleman’s now famous quartet: Coleman alto sax, Don Cherry, trumpet, Charlie Haden bass and Ed Blackwell drums. This rare early ‘60s Japanese pressing, comes in a British-style “flipback” laminated cover with liner notes in Japanese. It also utilises a unique stereo label design used by U.S. Atlantic briefly in 1959-60 and now hard to find even on U.S. issues (the Japanese mono label for this release is similar but red). (Cover is pretty ok. One upper back panel is starting to come unstuck and there's a period sticker to the back as seen in pics. But it's a fairly nice cover with only minor issues. [no obi].)

I have a long standing good reputation for grading and I use
the UK grading system which includes EX grades. I am used to
strict Japanese grading standards. If a disc is graded EX you
will not receive something that should be VG+. On the off chance
that happens, please contact me and I will sort it out.

These discs are generally aimed at Australian buyers,
but I have a lot of experience posting internationally.
International postage will be an $ AU 30 flat rate .
(I'll cover the difference, including tracking etc., and if actual postage
does happen to come in lower I'll refund the difference back.)

NOTE: I am going to be selling my own collection of clean
Japanese pressings with obi's and other discs this year.
I have issues with storage because my wife and I have been
relocating between Australia and Korea.
Vinyl is visually graded only. My sound system is still in storage in
another city.
Grading note: Very clean near mint records may sometimes have tiny
specks of dust or very small ultra thin fabric strands (which can sometimes
be mistaken for marks) on the vinyl, which come from the inside of
inner sleeves. Both of these will likely be removed by the stylus on first play.
If I can, I send items out in anti-static inner sleeves to try to minimize
this.
