history of OS CARIOCAS - EARLY YEARS.  Sang in the vicinity of small parties in the neighborhood of Tijuca, when participated in the talent show Carbon Paper, Renato Murce by the National Radio of Rio de Janeiro, come to get second place. In further attempts in the program, obtained the first place twice in a row. In 1946, a test on Radio National-performed in the presence of Haroldo Barbosa, Paulo Tapajós and Radames Gnattali, orchestra conductor of the station includes the set-up in a musical program called One million tunes. Participated Romantic Song programs and sings When Brazil. Have participated in Cesar de Alencar of talk shows, Manoel Barcelos and Paul Gracindo. The group stood out by mixing polyphony and rhythmic effects, which was different from the success of sets at the time, such as Bando da Lua (accompanied Carmen Miranda), The Hell's Angels and the Four Aces and Joker, which now sing in four or five voices. The album that changed everything [edit | edit source]
60´s
The quartet formation only occurred at the time of Quartera clearance in 1946 and since 1959, he added a novelty, all now in addition to vocal, instrumental quartet was distributed as follows: Severino took his studies with Zimbres, Koellreuter and Aida Gnattali to perfect piano technique and now, from 1962, be beyond first voice and arranger, pianist of the group; Badeco, second voice, remained on the guitar, which has dominated, but now with the beat of João Gilberto (Ishmael unfortunately not met); Quartera, third voice, which only had ventured into gourds, tan-tans, percussion instruments, took the sticks playing box and dish at a reduced battery; the rookie Luis Roberto took the fourth voice and vocal solos, played the guitar very well, but the group was holding the acoustic bass. Its tendency to serenade clashed with the small voice of style and no impostor vocal soloists of the period, but marked his unmistakable style, preserved by Severino sieve, which only cast in clear voice without vibrato, the voice of Luis Roberto for the moments of corner group.
From 1962 to 1967 six vinyl records were recorded by the group in Phillips (after Polygram and Universal currently): "A GRANDE BOSSA DOS CARIOCAS" - 1962, "More Bossa with Os Cariocas" - 1963, "The Cariocas of Four hundred Bossas" - 1964 , "The Great Bossa of Cariocas" - 1964, "Art Voices" - 1966 and "Passport" - 1966.
These LPs, recorded on two channels, had standard format instrumentation, with half of the repertoire recorded with orchestral accompaniment, Severino arrangements. The recordings took place in two stages: first one recorded the instrumental part of the orchestra, bass (Luis Roberto), reduced battery box and dish (Quartera), guitar (Badeco) and the piano Severino, who also conducted the orchestra, then , recorded the instrumental part, the group put the vocal.
