This is the final album Otis Redding actively participated in preparation of, and his single biggest seller ever; a genuine historic artifact and one of the most cherished and beloved of all soul albums. The album comprises of the legendary title track, whose gentle, laid-back melancholy became a soundtrack to the entire soul generation, plus 10 other tracks culled from other Otis Redding albums and 45's… In terms of consistency, the album leaves something to be desired, but the sheer vocal power and emotional intensity of the performance easily compensate for all blemishes and rough spots. The title track was literally the last thing Otis Recorded in his life, and was left unfinished, for Steve Cropper and Volt/Stax engineers to reassemble and reincorporate, which they did masterfully. Recorded in a few frantic sessions just days before he died in a plane crash, Otis Redding was fighting with his own demons, as well as effects of a major surgery on his larynx, which rendered him inactive for most of his last summer (1967). As if he knew that his mortal hour was near, he poured his heart and soul in these, final sessions of November/December 1967. King of Soul still reigns, 33 years after his death. (b)          The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(d)          Stock (commercially released) mono copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

-         The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the front side (nothing significant); (less than ¼ square inch in size, total area)

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1.
