· VARIOUS STAX AND VOLT MEMPHIS ARTISTS (OTIS REDDING, CARLA THOMAS, EDDIE FLOYD, WILLIAM BELL, SAM & DAVE, BOOKER T. & THE MG’S AND MAR-KEYS) – STAY IN SCHOOL – MONSTROUSLY RARE ORIGINAL, PROMO-ONLY 1967 STAX RECORDS MONO LP A-11
· ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING
· EASILY, AND BY FAR, THE SINGLE RAREST STAX/VOLT ALBUM IN EXISTENCE; NEVER COMMERCIALLY RELEASED IN ANY MANNER, SHAPE OR FORM
· ORIGINAL PALE BLUE STAX MONO LABEL WITH BLACK PRINT AND “STACK OF RECORDS” LOGO, EARLY-TO-MID 60’s STYLE (NOTE: ALTHOUGH THIS WAS A PROMOTIONAL RELEASE, NO WHITE LABEL PROMOS OF THIS TITLE EXIST)
· A NOTE ON THE "BANDING" OF THE TRACKS ON THIS RECORD: ALTHOUGH THE TRACKS ON THIS RECORDS ARE "BANDED" (SEPARATED), THEY ARE NOT "SPIRALED", I.E. THE STYLUS WILL NOT PROCEED FROM ONE TRACK TO ANOTHER AND THE NEW OWNER WILL HAVE TO PRECISELY POSITION THE STYLUS FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL TRACK. THIS IS A DELIBERATE FEATURE OF THIS ALBUM - NOT A FLAW - SINCE THE INDIVIDUAL SEGMENTS WERE INTENDED FOR RADIO PROGRAMING AND THE MANUFACTURER SPECIFICALLY INTENDED TO PREVENT THE INADVERTENT PLAYING OF TWO OR MORE CONSECUTIVE TRACKS ON AIR.
· THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.
· ORIGINAL, THICK CARDBOARD COVER (AMERICAN STYLE)
· FEATURES LINER NOTES (ACTUALLY, A LETTER OF ACKNOWLEDGMENT) FROM NONE OTHER THAN HUBERT HUMPHREY, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
· CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS
· THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING
· As far as we know, this album has NEVER been available on legitimate Compact Disc or in any other way, manner or format.

This long-player was not a commercial release and less than 10,000 copies are known to exist [ACTUALLY, WE BELIEVE THAN LESS THAN 1,000 EXISTS -- OP.ED.]. The discs were initially distributed to pop and soul radio stations or offered as giveaways and promotional premiums. It is a fascinating curio for enthusiasts of the Memphis-based R&B imprint and stands as a timepiece of an era when entertainers ostensibly embraced the burden and responsibility to be role models for their fans. Even concurrent Vice President of the United States Hubert H. Humphrey took notice and in his liner notes on the rear jacket, he "commend[s] the Stax/Volt family...in trying to help you help yourself," before concluding with "Remember, THOSE WHO LEARN MORE...EARN MORE! My young friends, that's where the action is!!!" The contents are split between songs and brief "stay in school" messages from top Stax talent: Otis Redding ("The Hucklebuck"), Carla Thomas ("I Want to Be Your Baby"), Eddie Floyd ("Holding on with Both Hands"), William Bell ("It's Happening All Over"), Sam & Dave ("My Reason for Living"), Booker T. & the MG's ("Soul Sanction"), and the Mar-Keys ("Plantation Inn"). Earnest collectors will note that both Redding's -- which is sung -- and Sam & Dave's "Announcement" have been issued as bonus filler on the respective Otis! (1994) and Sweat 'N' Soul (1993) anthologies. Of the remaining spoken (read: "Announcement") tracks, the most interesting title is "Group Discussion." For roughly three minutes, Sam Moore, David Prater, Booker T. Jones, Al Bell, David Porter, and Mack Rice gather, as Moore so aptly puts it, "to talk about the dropout. Alright? Is that OK with you?" With that they discuss the importance of staying enrolled and active in education. Another participant is Deanie Parker -- who at the time worked behind the scenes at Stax and as of 2008 was the president and executive director of the Stax museum Soulsville. The album was only pressed in monaural, meaning that the version of "Soul Sanction" included here is a rare mono edit, clocking in at 2:30 as opposed to the more common stereo track which is a good 40 seconds longer.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(a) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(b) Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.
(c) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on the upper seam
- Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seam and spine (nothing significant)
- Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 4 (back side)
- Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging (nothing significant).
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine
- Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)
- Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)
- Cover has a minor 'bump' (surface dent) on the back panel (less than 1/16th square inch in size)
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No split seams (yet, but the top seam is close)
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No writing
- No stamps
- No mold or mildew spots
- No stickers or labels
- No water damage
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
- No warping
- No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
- No glue traces or wax residue.
- No bar codes
- No RIAA stamps or stickers.
