OTTILIE PATTERSON Spring Song (Polydor UK 1969/1971)

Ottilie was a well respected vocal jazz/blues artist, but under the influence of Marmalade records, she produced this amazing eclectic masterpiece. Originally released on Marmalade in 1969 as '3000 Years With Ottilie' selling approximately zero, before being reissued by Polydor in 1971, selling again approximately zero. It's a truly fascinating LP, going from ancient celtic death chants to Ottlie's own unique compositions, bang up to date with the backing of fellow Marmalade musicians. So this was not going to appeal to her vocal jazz fans of old or the 1969 rock underground and it still apparently confounds the few people who have heard it now. It's a real shame as this is a trippy, unique and beautiful LP that throws out the rule book and just does what feels good, whether that's putting pastoral sounds to Shakespeare, getting late 60s funky or swooning with ancient melancholy. The range is wider than any LP I can think of and yet it all fits together so well and sound completely uncontrived. A masterpiece and still not reissued as far as I know. I've uploaded the title track on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V1yhAevxBs

Grading

Vinyl: EX lovely copy with only a few super light scuffs under bright light. Plays close to perfect.
Sleeve: VG light general wear and some very pale pink writing on front of sleeve to thr right hand side that is so pale it is barely visible.

Grading

M- As new, no marks of any kind whatsoever.

EX Perhaps a few featherlight whispy marks, but no scratches or deterioration in sound

VG+ Some light marks on the vinyl, but nothing that should cause clicks or pops, just occasional light surface noise.

VG Some heavier marks and maybe a few scratches that will cause some noise, but will still be a very enjoyable listen with definitely no sticks or skips or constant surface noise.
