Stateside he lived in Boston and Baltimore and James credits these childhood life experiences as his inspiration to write songs about his life adventures.Though southern in speech and outlook, James has a very open outlook about life and love. James (Jerry, to his close friends) Thomas met his band mates while working at various recording studios in Charlotte, N.C.James’ first album was produced by David Floyd with Pat Walters playing electric lead guitar.The album was titled," Ocean Song" and sold under his nickname "Jerry" Thomas. Roger Penkethman Posted 17th January 2020 In Reviews 0 When I first read the write-up for this album on Skyfire Interactive site, I knew immediately I had to listen and consider reviewing it. And man, I was immediately hooked from that first drum intro and when the horns came in, I was well and truly floored. This album is absolutely floorless, you can really hear that everyone involved has put their heart and soul in getting the right musical and emotional feel, to every single song. From the first to last note, this album oozes a huge amount of style and confidence, full of beautifully written and infectious melodies, that will immediately get stuck in your head. Musically it is very cross genre blended rock, blues and some funk influences, which all blend together in a very enjoyable way, that is almost impossible not to find yourself tapping your toes too. The way all the instruments ebb and flow like the tide, throughout the songs really add interest engaging the listener. I read that the band came about when in early 2000’s, James ran into his old friend, keyboardist, bassist and drummer David Floyd, who convinced him to start writing together and along with guitarist Pat Walters the result became their first album, the 2010 released The Courthouse And The Redemption. Now with changes to the musicians, we arrive at the release of this album. This new line-up now includes guitarist/producer Andre Ferreri, lead guitarist, bassist, drummer and keyboardist Mat Sigmon and lead guitarist Alan Rueda. As a unit these guys gel, together wonderfully with great chemistry and the sound that comes from their instruments sounds effortless, though I sure it took plenty of hard work. James has a very earthy tone to his voice which is very easy to listen to and really captures the emotions in the lyrics. Which are very well written and thought provoking at times. Which being a lyricist myself I found very intriguing and wondered what the stories were behind them. This is definitely one that will be added to my goto list and I can see it staying, there for a long long time. In fact both their albums have been added to my spotify playlist and have had regular listens. And when I can locate the cd’s, I’m certain they will be making their way across the pond to England and through my door. So to bring this review to a close, I have to say I can truly recommend this album. So if you like your music similar to how, I’ve described then please purchase it and support the band. Last of all, comes my score which is an easy top marks.
