This handsome LP from RCA (VIC-1058, US pressing, plum/silver label – 1S/1S stampers, mono) gathers together several inspired recordings that legendary violinist David Oistrakh made for RCA shortly after his American debut, each highlighting various facets of his remarkable artistry – the quicksilver virtuosity, gorgeous tone, impeccable musicianship, and magisterial bearing that were all hallmarks of his inimitable artistry.

Ernest Chausson: Poeme for Violin and Orchestra Op. 25
Camille Saint-Saëns: Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso Op. 28
Both works were recorded with Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the fabled acoustics of Symphony Hall, Boston, on 14 December 1955.

Pietro Antonio Locatelli (arr. Eugene Ysaye): Violin Sonata in F minor Op. 6 No. 7
Both works were recorded with pianist Vladimir Yampolsky in New York during 7-8 March 1955.

Incidentally, the striking cover art reprints Claude Lorrain’s “A Herdsman Resting Under a Tree”. There are excellent liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is a tiny nick to the front panel, and slight bumping to one corner. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a truly excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
