ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful and little-known LP from MK · Mezhdurodnaya Kniga (D 012849-12850(a), thick Soviet pressing, blue/silver MK label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features the legendary violinist David Oistrakh in a pair of exceedingly rare peformances from his vast discography, both sublime recordings of music by Mozart made in Moscow in the 1950s.

 

Included are the following works:

 

Mozart: Quartet for Flute and String Trio No. 3 in C Major K. Anh. 171 (K. 285b)

> with flutist Grigory Madatov, violinist David Oistrakh, violist Michael Terian, and cellist Stanislav Knushevitsky

 

Mozart: Violin Sonata No. 11 in G Major K. 379

> with violinist David Oistrakh and pianist Lev Oborin

 

The Violin Sonata No. 11 in G Major K. 379 contains some of the most lovely pages in all Mozart, and Oborin – always a sensitive accompanist – here delivers playing on limpid poetry.

 

And Oistrakh? The tone is unmistakable, as is the generous personality, charm, and fantasy of the playing. This is the art of the violin at its zenith and this makes as fine a calling card of Oistrakh's artistry as one could hope for. It should be noted that this was Oistrakh's only recording of any of Mozart's Flute Quartets. The recorded sound throughout is fine and the endless (and largely unjustified) apologies made for Soviet sound engineering are quite out of place here. From every standpoint, this ranks very high in Oistrakh's recorded legacy.

 

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

 

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is some chipping and wear along the spine, as well as bumping/wear at corners, and discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no bends, seamsplits, owners' markings, or other defects and the jacket remains solid, bright, glossy, and very attractive in appearance. – overall, a superb collector's copy.

 

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though the surfaces are not always completely  CD silent, in general, the playback is superb. Only those. those requiring absolutely silent surfaces should hesitate. Overall, this rates as a truly excellent collector's copy.
