(Decca SXL 2012 UK LP 1958)

This is a UK original ED1 Stereo 1st LP pressing. It has a fully laminated flipback sleeve. This has an extremely thin spine. The "spine" text is on the rear sleeve next to the spine. There is also a blue border around the text on the rear sleeve. The top & bottom flipback have a die-cut rounded area at the centre. There is a printers date on the bottom flipback (B&M 58.8). This means that this sleeve was printed in August 1958. It comes with its original company "FFSS" polythene-lined inner sleeve.

The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has ED1 Decca labels. These have the "Original Recordings By" text on them. The labels are grooved also. The record has 1st press ZAL-2801-3E and ZAL-2802-2E matrix stampers.

This is a genuine UK 1st Stereo pressing. The sleeve has a blue border around the text & has a 1958 printing date on the sleeve also. These are quite rare. A classic recording & performance too. Well recommended!



Sleeve: Ar some point this LP has got stuck to the sleeve next to it. It has left some light to mild rips or tears to the bottom left picture area on the front sleeve. Otherwise, there is a small 2.5 cm seam split at the centre of the top seam. There is some light creasing to the bottom flipback, & some light to very mild ringwear too. There is also a small area of laminate peeling at the bottom front sleeve opening area. VG condition. These early UK Decca sleeves are extremely prone to wear. Overall this is not too bad. 

Vinyl: There are some light to very mild sleeve rubs which can be seen under a strong light. There is a very light 5 cm hairline mark, & an extremely light 1 cm hairline mark on Side 1.  VG++ condition. The labels are in excellent+ condition & show very light spindle wear only. The company inner sleeve is in VG++ condition. There is some light ringwear & mild fading. There are no seam splits.

I have fully play tested this LP. Side 1 plays Very Near Excellent to Excellent overall & Excellent+ in some places. There is some light or very light crackle in a few quieter places. Side 2 plays VG+ overall & Near Excellent in some places. There is some light, mild or very mild crackle in some quieter places. There are a couple of light clicks in three separate places through Side 2.  These appear to have been caused by dirt in the grooves. I think that Side 2 would definitely benefit from a professional clean also.
