Brief Artist & Album/Single Info: "A COLLECTION OF BEATLE OLDIES" (subtitled But Goldies!) is a compilation album by The Beatles. Released in the United Kingdom in December 1966, it features hit singles and other songs issued by the group between 1963 and 1966. The compilation served as a stopgap release to satisfy EMI's demand for product during the Christmas period, since the Beatles had only begun the recording sessions for their new studio album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, late the previous month. It was the band's first official greatest hits collection, although the Beatles had no involvement in the album.
The album's preparation and release coincided with rumours in the press that the group were on the verge of splitting up. This speculation was encouraged by the band members' high-profile individual activities since completing their final US tour, in late August 1966, and the announcement that, unlike in previous years, they would not be performing any concerts in Britain at the end of the year. The album cover is a painting combining contemporary psychedelic and op art themes and was commissioned by the band's manager, Brian Epstein. To proponents of the Paul is Dead theory, the artwork offered the first clues relating to the alleged demise of Paul McCartney and his replacement in the Beatles by a lookalike, a scenario that is said to have taken place in November 1966
A Collection of Beatles Oldies peaked at number 7 on the UK Albums Chart. It was also released in some other European countries and, in 1968, in Australia. The album was deleted from the Beatles' catalogue following the reissue of their albums on compact disc in 1987.
CONDITION
Unfortunately I do NOT possess a recording machine of this caliber to confirm wether the Tape actually plays. So this is being listed Purely as a "Collectors Item". I see No reason why it should not play as the tape has the leading edge with Parlophone TA-PMC-7016, Speed 33/4 I.P.S. "Collection Of Beatles Oldies" & Recording First Published 1966.
The Spool is not Split, Chipped or Broken anywhere. The Tape sits tightly within the Spool. It has stamped to both sides "Made In Great Britain EMITAPE Recording Tape"
I can ONLY grade this as GOOD because I CANNOT verify that is plays.
COVER: This Tape came packaged within a Cardboard Box measuring 13cm x 13cm x 1&1/2cm. The format is Exactly the same as the album the front cover artwork in very 60's flower power style was by David Christian with the Track Listings and Information on the Reverse.
The Box has a Split to the bottom left (where the corner has come apart). The front of the Box Does show signs of age. All of the Printing is readable. The Reverse again does show signs of age and all Printing is readable. There is a tiny Pink smudge to the top right. A Previous owner has put Ticks in red ink beside each track listing. PLEASE look see my pictures. This Box is incredibly difficult to find in Ex+ condition simply because of it's design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade it as Good!!!!
COVER SUMMARY: Not seen often, this one is in reasonable condition with only a few clues of age and blemishes. This classic Box should (as described) please many collectors.
Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint; the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever offer. So I will only offer from Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus, plus)!!!!
Bid With Confidence: I take great care and pride with what I sell and offer a FULL money back guarantee, in the unlikely event of the buyer not agreeing with my description. As long as the item is repacked and returned to me in the same condition it was sent.
Postage: All of my records will be professionally packaged. I use Dependapack Vinyl Record Mailers that have locking tab closures with strong locking tab record wraps. I also use corrugated record stiffeners and extra strong tape marked with Handle With Care. This is to ensure your Valuable Record/s are protected whilst in transit. I will add a nominal fee of .40p to my postage and packaging for this service. Any Record valued at £100 or more I would prefer to send by Special Deliver/International Signed For.
