Description
For sale is a vinyl record by Olivia Newton-John titled "If Not For You", originally released in 1971 by UNI Records, a division of MCA Records, as a promotional copy as indicated by "SAMPLE COPY" stamped on the back cover. This is a first printing with the original textured cover that feels like linen or canvas. I bought this record used, professionally cleaned it on my VPI HW-17 machine and then it was put into a MFSL archival inner sleeve. Inside the dead wax between the labels and the last tracks is an etching that appears to be a stick "1", followed by the matrix numbers W-2/E-1, indicating that early stampers were used to make this record at MCA Records' pressing plant located in Gloversville, New York. These are hallmarks of state-of-the-art engineering, sought after by collectors and music lovers for their superior sound qualities. The cover is graded as Very Good because of corner blunts, edge rubs and multople stress cracks along the spine resulting in seam splits on both corners. The spine has color loss at the corners from these blunts and along the edge from rubs and those stress cracks have made a lot of paper loss. There is fraying at the two remaining corners with paper loss. The vinyl is visually graded as Near Mint with shiny, bright surfaces in a like-new condition without any smudges, surface scratches or spindle marks on the labels. I'm play grading this album as Near Mint without any pops, skips or surface noise from start to finish. This is still one of the best copies of this record that I have ever seen or heard and you would be hard pressed to find a copy like this one, especially a Promotional pressing.
