Omar Khayyam in a Persian Garden Liza Lehmann, 8x Shellac book set 78rpm
A very rare set of old HIS MASTER'S VOICE 78rpm records in a special edition early book style 'box set'.
Entitled 'IN A PERSIAN GARDEN' it features works taken from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam... the C11th writer and poet.
'Madame Liza Lehmann's music to selected quatrains of the Rubaiyat is some of the most beautiful work of this always beautiful composer...' so says the detailed info given on the inside cover of the book. Each record has its own sleeve with cut out showing the label. Above the label on each sleeve is an extract from the writings of Omar Khayyam pertaining to that piece of music and beneath a wonderful illustration.
This is a marvelous and important record set of its time.
The 'book' shows a lot of wear as one might expect from an item this old and rare. The front of the spine is missing. Please see the pictures before bidding as i do not want any upset auction winners.
The 8 shellac discs look in a near mint condition and the centre labels boast colourful artwork. These are all single sided and the back of the discs has the Gramophone label stamped in the centre section - see the last picture.
Please ask any questions prior to bidding and I will do my best to answer them - though i do not have a record player able to play 78rpm records!
This is a collect only or arrange you're own courier auction. Although once the courier takes the item i am not responsible for any breakages.
Not sure of the exact date but it must be somewhere between the 1920s - 1940s?
