Operatic 78rpm records. Rare G&T label + Caruso, Eames, De Luca, McCormack etc

Here’s about 15kg of lovely old OPERATIC 78rpm records by LEGENDARY SINGERS from the 1900's to the 1920's, which all play OK, although most of them are NOT in Museum Quality Condition.

There are 30 of them, all twelve inch, and some are single-sided and some are on the rare early Gramophone & Typewriter label.

If you plan to play them on a wind-up machine, and you don’t mind the odd scrunch or whoosh or clonk, then you will find these records are ideal.

If you want to play them with a modern lightweight pickup, and expect your records to be absolutely perfect, then THESE ARE NOT FOR YOU.

Here’s what you get:

1. Caruso Galli-Curci, Perini and DeLuca. Rigoletto Quartet SINGLE SIDED Buff HMV 2-054066 nice VG+ copy

2. Emma Eames. Ave Maria (Bach Gounod) Red Victor G&T VM 03042 SINGLE SIDED Scruffy, with a SAFE 1” hairline crack on rim

3. John McCormack: Una Furtiva Lagrima. Gramophone(Dog)  Monarch SINGLE SIDED 2-052022 heat or damp mark at beginning causes a swishing sound for a few seconds.

4. John McCormack: Adeste Fideles & The Lost Chord HMV DB 328 Nice VG copy plays very well.

5. Luisa Tetrazzini: Caro Nome (Rigoletto) SINGLE SIDED Red HMV 2-053050 nice VG+ plays very well.

6. Elsa Stralia: Two arias from Carmen. Columbia 7332. VG++ plays very well.

7. Enrico Caruso: O Souverain O Juge O Pere (Le Cid) SINGLE SIDED Red HMV 2-032025 nice VG, but he blasts a bit at the start.

8. Guiseppe DeLuca: Largo Al Factotum SINGLE SIDED Victrola 74514VG+ plays well, v discreet safe under-the-label crack.

9. Mattia Battistini: O Lisbona (Donizetti) SINGLE SIDED yellow G&T 052154 with a discreet rim crack. Plays very well and is very clean.

10. Joseph Hislop & Dinh Gilly: Two arias from Madame Butterfly. HMV DB 743 VG++ and plays very well.

11. Luisa Tetrazzini: Dio Possente (Faust - Gounod) SINGLE SIDED Red Gramophone (Dog) Monarch 2-053087. Tiny safe crack but plays very well and is very clean.

12. Riccardo Stracciari: Toreador Song & Largo Al Factotum. Columbia 2129. VG++ and plays very well (early electric recording)

13. Amelita Galli-Curci: Lo Here (or hear) The Gentle Lark SINGLE SIDED Red HMV 03728. VG++ plays very well.

14. Luisa Tetrazzini: Caro Nome (Rigoletto) SINGLE SIDED Pink Gramophone Monarch 053141. Safe crack but plays very well and is clean.

15. Enrico Caruso: Vesti La Giubba (of course). SINGLE SIDED Red HMV 052159. Very clean VG++ plays very well,

16. Alessandro Bonci: Una Furtiva Lagrima & Che Gelida Manina. Columbia Royal Blue D17204 (with signature in wax on both sides). VG and plays very well indeed.

17. John McCormack: She is far from the land & The Irish emigrant.

HMV DB 327 VG+ and plays very well.

18. Amelita Galli-Curci: La Villanelle. SINGLE SIDED Red HMV 2-033081. VG+ plays very well.

19. De Lucia, Huguet,Pini Corsi: Trio from Barber Of Seville RARE RED G&T SINGLE SIDED 054083 (1906 Milan). Looks VG+ but “swishes” at the start, due to water (or heat?) damage.

20. Emma Eames. Valse Aria from Romeo & Juliet (Gounod) Red Victor G&T VM 033015 SINGLE SIDED. Very clean but with a 1” hairline crack on edge.

21. Fernando De Lucia & Giuseppa Huguet: E il sol del anima. (Rigletto) RARE RED G&T SINGLE SIDED 054084 (1906 Milan). Looks VG+ but “swishes” at the start, due to water (or heat?) damage. Acceptable.

22. John McCormack: Ave Maria (Gounod) & Angels Guard Thee. AUSTRALIAN HMV DB577 VG++ plays very well.

23. John McCormack: Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes. Purple SINGLE SIDED HMV  02245 VG plays well.

24. Caruso & Scotti: Amore O Grillo (Madama Butterfly) Yellow SINGLE SIDED HMV 2-054014 looks scruffy, but plays well OK.

25. Enrico Caruso: Je Crois Entenre Encore (Pearl Fishers) Pink  

SINGLE SIDED HMV 2-032026 looks scruffy, and is marked, but plays OK.

26. Enrico Caruso: Serenata (Bracco) SINGLE SIDED Red HMV 2-052191 looks VG but sounds better. Plays well OK.

27. Dame Nellie Melba: Two arias from La Boheme HMV DB 356 VG+ plays well.

28. Amelita Galli-Curci: Lo Here (or hear) The Gentle Lark & Echo Song (Bishop) HMV DB 258 VG++ plays very well.

29. Dame Nellie Melba: Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms Red SINGLE SIDED HMV 03694 VG+ plays well, but has a tear on the label & small edge chip, well clear of the playing surface.

30. Amelita Galli Curci: Bell Song (Lakme) and Solveig’s Song (Peer Gynt) HMV DB 263. A few short scratches on Bell Song side. Reverse is VG+ and both sides play very well.

The records aren’t perfect, but they’ve got a lot of play left in them and will gladden your heart as you crank up the gramophone.

You’ll get the lot, all in sleeves, in a big bundle wrapped up with bubble-wrap and polystyrene peanuts. That’s why the postage is so expensive. NO BUYER COLLECT.. sorry.. but if you are lucky enough to live in or near the beautiful county of Suffolk, I could perhaps deliver them personally in my filthy van.
