TRIBUTE TO A KING - The JAMAICA DAILY NEWS
(Thursday, May 21, 1981)
- This is a SERIOUS COLLECTOR'S ITEM for any SERIOUS MARLEY fan and I can't believe that I'm giving it up, has been one of my PRIZED possessions for years. :o( I came across this in the early-80's and have tried my best to keep it in decent shape...IT IS!!
The periodical comes straight outa JAMAICA and features numerous ARTICLES ("The Last Tour", "A Mother Remembers", "A True Revolutionary", "A Legend In His Time", "Skill Cole Remembers 'The Gong'", "His Music Will Live On For Posterity", etc), PHOTOGRAPHS (many LIVE shots as well as an entire page devoted to being "ON TOUR IN W. GERMANY" by NEVILLE GARICK), ADVERTISEMENT TRIBUTES (such as Mutual Life, WLIB, ISLAND RECORDS, FEDERAL & DYNAMIC RECORDS[see pic], JAMAICA PEGASUS, JOHN DEERE, KINGSTON PUBLISHERS, RANDY'S RECORD MART, EVERLAST MUFFLERS, AQUARIUS RECORDS, etc!), POETRY, many MESSAGES (from the likes of EDWARD SEAGA, CULTURE MINISTER OF STATE, PETER TOSH, THIRD WORLD BAND, CHALICE, JUDY MOWATT, MARCIA GRIFFITHS and RITA MARLEY herself to name a few), LYRICS printed inside back page(REDEMPTION SONG, WE AND THEM, WAR, POSITIVE VIBRATION and COULD YOU BE LOVED), etc!!!
The biggest problem with this newspaper is it's delicate spine(see picture below), still together but very fragile. ALL of the pages are intact with a few holes in the cover(and a tear here or there). Speaking of the front, it was printed in nice ITES, GOLD & GREEN color...AS WELL AS the fold-out POSTER that spans the entire TWO pages of the paper's center and features Bob singing at the mic, the LION of JUDAH and is printed "BOB MARLEY 1945-1981 R.I.P.", BRILLIANT(measures aprox. 17" x 24")!! This newspaper is 24 PAGES in length and is about 17" x 12" in total size when closed up!! I can't even stress how special this has been to me but I'm in the need so someone's getting a real goody here!!!

I really need you guys to stick to this policy!! I'm more than happy to hold a package so you can get a shipping discount if you see something ending AFTER the THREE DAYS but I CANNOT continue to wait for payment...like is requested by many!! I'm trying to put up records (and in this case a newspaper) for auction EVERY DAY or close to...so I'd be in a constant "waiting pattern". Help me out here. THANKS BREDREN (& SISTREN)!!! :o)
