Description
Psiglo: Ideacion , Clave NPS 701 Stereo, Uruguay / Scarce debut 1973 album by Uruguayan progsters. Disc is in Vg++ condition, looks glossy with a minor amount of non feelable scuffs & plays clean, almost flawless with just few light crackles in spots, mostly due to the mediocre pressing quality, that is common to most of South American pressings. A side label has a minimal faint signature, while B side looks absolutely clean. Jacket is in Vg++ close to Ex condition, with light signs of wear & soiling, there are no seams splitting or writings, and it looks clean inside the foc. The overall condition of both vinyl and jacket is really nice, most of these 1st pressing copies use to turn up in a quite poor condition.
In order to make it clear, what I’m currently offering is the true genuine original, whose serial number is NPS 701 and which was recorded between January & March 1973 at Sondor studios hitting the market on July 1973. This ain’t no news to experienced collectors focused on South American recordings. Unfortunately The Magic Land guide did wrongly indicate that serial number and year of release corresponding to “Ideación” 1st pressing was 42.701 dated 1972… This raised lot of confusion, keeping in mind that this guide was for a long time the only reference that worldwide collectors could grab, and to make things even worst Dream, Fantasies & Nightmares by Vernon Joynson kindly borrowed this wrong data, I’d like to point out that my friend Marcelo Camerlo is fully aware of this mistake and this together with some other gaps in the Uruguay chapter we have largely discussed. The reasons he exposed to me are really very understandable, making this book took him lot of effort and love, of course, and this comes quite evident when reading the Argentina chapter he wrote himself, but the Uruguay section was in charge of an Uruguayan guy, the only one Marcelo had at hand in the moment to help him with this task. Truth is that this guy’s main interest is actually worldwide mainstream acts rather than South American psych & prog, and even though he was an Uruguayan native it seems that there were many specific details he forgot as the years went by …. Marcelo did his best to check every data regarding this matter, but maybe the rush to make the book to be out made him to overlook some points.
Coming back to “Ideación” there are a couple of clues that will help every collector to definitely identify the genuine 1st pressing:
a) When handling an original and opening the fold out cover you will clearly see the words “Cervantes/73” on bottom right portion by spine. Cervantes is just the name of the printing plant where the Clave label used to make the sleeves for most of its releases since at least late 60’s until mid 70’s. Then they began working with F.I.M.A.S.A and that’s obviously the name that appears on the 42.701 second pressing whose year of release is probably somewhere between 1977 and 1981, possibly only short time before the postdated release of the rare Psiglo II (Clave 42.705) / 1981, whose sleeve was also printed at F.I.M.A.S.A. (and which, by the way, I’m currently auctioning too). The first run of this second pressing was still released in a fold out cover and later on in just a single cover with same serial number. It’s possible to find white labeled copies which are by no means promotional, these white labels are just “emergency” labels that Clave launched to avoid x-tra printing costs by deleting the classic violet coloration, this never happened with the original pressing NPS 701, as this “emergency labels” modality began by mid 70’s due to the economic crisis. A last re-re pressing from late 80’s also exists, this time with soft single cover and a different label.
b) The letters NPS placed before the serial number were common to some of the fold out covers Clave editions from late 60’s to no more than 1974,.some examples are: Stones’ “Satanic Majesties “ (Clave/London NPS 2), Ten Years After “Stonehenge” (Clave/Deram NPS 72). This NPS series was mainly dedicated to foreign acts but due to reasons I ignore this Psiglo lp was released like that, maybe because it had a fold out cover, that in fact was not a regular practice in case of local artists’ pressings.
c) The original edition NPS 701 has NO matrix number engraved on the trail-off while second pressing reads 1056-1/1057-2
