Description

Original April 1964 Rolling Stones 1st Decca Mono LK 4605, with MONA and other early label and cover errors.

This album was bought the week it came out in April 1964. Apart from recent checking, it has been unplayed for roughly 40 years and has been carefully stored.  Overall it is in VG/Excellent condition. The disc has no warping or visible distortion, looks fresh and, in spite of some small surface scuff marks, all tracks sound excellent/very good and with no skips and relatively little/no surface noise. It would sound even better with a good clean.

The flip edge cover is in very good condition, with some minor creasing and circular disc imprint on the front, and a small tear on the top edge and a name (mine) neatly printed on the back side and on the side 1 label (see the pictures). The sleeve is the original plain version, slightly creased at the edges, yellowed/stained with age and with the words “BRITISH PATENTS NO etc” and “MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN” on the lower edge.

The label is the classic red grooved Decca version of the era, with silver lettering including “Recording First Published 1964”, K/T tax markings and N.C.B. on the right hand side,  all confirming it as an original first release.

The disc stamper/markings are :

Side 1: Matrix: XARL-2A      Mother: 3B      Stamp: BG      Tax: KT

Side 2: Matrix: XARL-3A      Mother: 1        Stamp: BN      Tax: KT

As an early release, the cover and grooved labels include a number of errors/features (see the pictures) as follows:

Side 1 (label and cover):

Track 3: Honest I Do attributed to Hurran and Calvert

Track 4: MONA wrongly given as the title of I Need You Baby

Side 2 (label and cover)

Track 3: is the 4 minute version of Tell Me.

Track 4: Can I Get a Witness attributed to Holland, Bozier

Track 5: You Can Make It You Try instead of You Can Make It If You Try (cover).
