Description
Very rare in as new condition, now 40 years old and a true collectable, owned by the promoter of this vibrant club
A bit of background info Ironically the name of the music this badge represents is Northern Soul but in the 70’s and 80’s this scene was huge as far south as Cambridge, Bedford ( all nighters at Bletsoe in the 60’s and far from up North.) There were two huge venues in Peterborough and just down the road at St Ives.
Both had all the big acts there , Junior Walker, Exciters, Gloria Jones ,I( chatted to her and Marc Bolan at St Ives) plus many more. The Wirrina in Peterborough held over 2000 people and was regularly packed and St Ives was renowned for its wonderful dance floor.
All the locals that attended here regularly used to travel to the Casino ( I would chug up there in my Hillman Super Minx till I blew it up )and we built up many friendships and of course romances from all over the country.
These badges are from promotor Dave Reed one of the “young pups” on the scene who when many of the 1st wave of faces left the scene to have families, he kept the scene vibrant with the new generation and Djs like Keb Darge.( great dancer and mates with Paul Weller )
The three venues Dave promoted NS at were Wirrina, St Ives and the Fleet. All three legendry venues still have revivals, well worth checking out.
The badge is super rare in this as new condition and a huge cog in the history of Northern soul from its East Anglian roots.
