The series debuted on CBS in August of 1939, and aired its last episode on December 27, 1954.  Welles portrayed the Shadow from 1937 until the Fall of 1938 when his name became a household word literally overnight following the broadcast of The War Of The Worlds and the ‘identity’ of the Shadow was uncovered.  Margot Lane was played by Agnes Moorehead in these early episodes.  She left The Shadow in 1939 to be a star in Welles’ Mercury Theatre.
