You are viewing an August 1, 1938 Mercury Theatre Dress Rehearsal recording of the 39 Steps, recorded for CBS by Universal Recorders. There are 3 acetate 16" discs (5 sides), recorded at 33 1/3.  This is truly a rare piece of history. You will hear Orson Welles make comments such as "where is page 22, you guys really wrecked my script" ....At the end, you will hear John Houseman ask "how long did it run Larry" and the last reply is "I don't know yet"...And that is the reason for the rehearsal, to time it for the live broadcast

These discs predate The War of The Worlds, and are truly a ONE OFF.....

The labels are a bit raggedy after all these years, but the discs are in excellent shape and play well for the most part.
