redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and rather rare LP from RCA Victor (LSC-2977, US pressing, top dog label, stereo, original inner sleeve included) features the young Seiji Ozawa conducting the mighty Chicago Symphony Orchestra in resplendent accounts of Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra Op. 24.
Both works were sumptuously recorded in the spacious acoustics of Medinah Temple, Chicago on 17/18 July 1967 (producer: Peter Delheim / engineer: Bernard Keville).
Incidentally, there are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Roger Dettmer, Music and Theater Critic of Chicago’s American – printed in English only. The cover photo of Ozawa (uncredited) shows the conductor at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight wear at corners, but really that is all. Otherwise, this is quite close to NM. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, this rates as a truly fine collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), really this is a very fine copy and playback is truly superb. However, if you must have absolutely perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a very fine collector's copy.
