📜 A Tribute to Pablo Perea León & Sonido Arcoiris

To speak of Pablo Perea León and Sonido Arcoiris is to speak of one of the first sound systems from Peñón de los Baños, which began in 1948. He always stood out for his excellent music, being among the very first to travel to South America, following only Samuel Gómez from Tepito (who traveled to Colombia in 1965—but that is another story).

Don Pablo Perea traveled throughout the entire continent, from the United States to Argentina, searching for the most select music for his sound equipment. He introduced New York Salsa to Mexico in the mid-1970s, being the first to play artists such as Brooklyn Sounds, Orquesta Amistad, Carlos Ramos, Rey Roig, and Ray Terrace on a sound system in Mexico.

From South America, he brought the sounds of Ray Pérez, Sexteto Juventud, Pantera, Fruko, and Rafael Labasta. He introduced the rhythms of Cumbia from all countries, including Peruvian, Argentine, Chilean, and Guatemalan Cumbia, not to mention the Guaracha. A great collector of 78 RPM Shellac records, writing these lines is a small tribute to this great character, with whom we had the fortune of a very good friendship.

This cover captures a small image of his history and musical legacy for the neighborhoods of Mexico that danced for more than 56 years to his music. Don Pablo passed away in 2004, leaving behind an indelible legacy.
