RARE and HARD-TO-FIND original very first STEREO press released by Mericana Records, made and distributed in Perú in 1972 by Fabricantes Técnicos Asociados S.A. (FTA), catalog number DXLI 3002, with hand etched matrix numbers DXLI 3002 A 10537 in Side A and DXLI 3002 B 10538 in Side B. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from South America!!!

“LA CUMBIA DE CUCUTA” was originally released in 1972 and it’s the debut album of Edgardo “Pachapo” Jimenez. About this record, I guess the best description is in the liner notes in back cover:

“What is a PACHAPO??????

One can say that it is a tropical bug, or a rare disease, or maybe a model for a new car… it is really how EDGARDO JIMENEZ, the young and vibrant leader of this new group, LA COMPARSA, is affectionately called.

This exciting talented pianist and composer brings you in this, his first LP, his unique style, his creative moods and a new, a very new sound in this demanding world of music. The novel sounds of SI MA CHI QUIER, the excitement of LAS MALAS LENGUAS and NO LE DIGAN, the beautiful EL ANGEL DE LA GUARDIA, plus the other selections, will make this LP a very exciting musical experience.”

The cover is made with a single piece of thin cardboard folded in the middle and with the back cover pasted on the flips of front cover. In back cover the liner notes are written in English and Spanish. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE album by Pachapo Y Su Comparsa, A MUST for all fans/collectors of cumbia/guagancó music in particular and of tropical/salsa music in general, the authentic very first Peruvian press on Mericana Records!!! WOW!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in only G+ or VG- condition, still complete but with heavy damage by humidity, which caused tears and blemishes in front and back cover, with ring marks, creases and some discoloration, regular wear in all the edges, more evident in corners and little rips, but amazingly without seam splits, a real miracle. The record is in G+ or VG- condition both sides, still glossy and clean, but with many scuffs, hairlines and scratches of all sizes and in all directions, which mostly don’t affect play at all (I say “mostly” because a heavy scratch in the first song of Side A it causes some jumps). Labels on both sides are in EX- or EX condition, clean and clear, with only some spindle hole and general wear. The sound is a bit hard to grade, because the first song of the album has some jumps but all the other songs play really great, so I guess I will grade the record as VG- or VG in Side A (the first song has jumps but the other songs could easily grade in EX- or even EX) and in strong EX- or EX condition the Side B, in both sides the sound is clear and clean, loud, with minimal background noise, with only some soft crackles and occasional light pops, more evident in the silent parts between tracks and in song “El Angel De La Guardia”. Overall, sure this record is not for Minty minds or audiophiles, but sure this is a MEGARARE record and in spite of the jumps in the first song the rest of the album will satisfy anyone who knows the level of rarity of the record. Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

SHIPPING (Packing and Postage)

We have an unique value worldwide: 

GBP15 for weight until 1kg (usually 1 or 2 records 12" depending of thickness of the vinyl)

GBP25 for weight 1-2kg (usually 3-5 records 12")

GBP10 for one 7” record

All records will be packed outside of the sleeve to avoid damages in the cover and all records will be sent with tracking number via Small Packet or Parcel Post services.

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
