PANAMA LIMITED JUG BAND - Self/Titled

An extremely rare and highly sought after copy of this 1969 UK 1st press gem by this short-lived late 60's/early 70's British rock-folk band on the highly collectable HARVEST label, STEREO, SHVL 753

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  SHVL 753 A - 1G with stampers "1" and "A" at 9.30 and 3.30 respectively

Side 2   SHVL 753 B - 1G with stampers "1" and "R" at 9.30 and 3.30 respectively 

The appearance of the thick, heavy duty vinyl is superb. Completely flat and when viewed in normal daylight a beautiful glossy sheen with no marks at all. When viewed under a brighter light, and tilted at the right angle, just a couple of small wispy hairlines come into view but even these are not immediately apparent, even under a bright light. A real gleamer and obviously played only a handful of times.!

The labels are pristine. Completely unmarked with not even the usual faint spindle trails. And, of course, no "EMI" on either label indicating one of the earliest pressings of this sought after rarity.

The iconic and laminated Ernest J. Day outer gatefold sleeve is in excellent+ condition.  All edges remain firm with no scuffing at all, and that includes the rigid spine where all writing remains perfectly legible. The outer colouring remains completely intact with a vibrant and impressive, and each corner is a nicely defined right angle with barely any scuffing at all. The laminate itself is in excellent condition with just a couple of minor laminate creases on the front side and two 1.5cm very mild laminate creases on the front side adjacent and perpendicular to the spine. There is also a mild 1.5cm score mark on the front side just right of middle...all of these blemishes are minor and none are intrusive at all. The reverse side is in even better condition and is difficult to fault at all...just two very, very minor 1cm horizontal laminate creases towards the top of the spine. The opening edges have no fraying and the inside of the gatefold is near perfect - difficult to fault in any way. Very, very impressive throughout!

Finally, the quality of the audio is superb. Great tone and clarity throughout with no distortion, even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No crackle (background or otherwise), no clicks, pops, or skips. Exactly what you would expect from gleaming and barely played vinyl such as this - brilliant!

Comes with original Harvest poly-lined inner sleeve (itself a collectable) with no splits or tears and again in excellent+ condition. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner in order to protect the original.

In summary a truly EXCELLENT+ copy of this rare and highly sought after 1969 UK 1st pressing rock-blues gem, that would surely grace any vinyl collection. I am sure that many would class this as mint or mint minus : I'll be content to leave as "excellent+" but rest assured that there can't be many copies of this treasured gem in better condition than this.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
