PAPUA NEW GUINEA, VOLUME ONE: CHIMBU MUSIC - KUKANE TRADITIONS
Very rare and absolutely unbeatable album comprising field recordings from villages in the Chimbu district of Papua New Guinea. It's really a shame how hard it is to find good recordings of traditional music from Papua New Guinea, because it's some of the most unusual and compelling world music I've ever heard. This LP features a few terrific pieces for Jews' harp, some weird flute performances that sound like a broken steam calliope, and some remarkable and utterly unique vocal pieces utilizing all sorts of baffling falsetto and breathing techniques. An indescribably wonderful album...one of the best in my current auctions!Released in the mid-sixties by the Institute of Papua New Guinea Studies, Papua New Guinea.

CONDITION: Gatefold cover is in excellent condition, save for light wear at edges and corners, and some peeling of protective varnish. The disc is in excellent condition; it plays beautifully, with no skips and little or no surface noise. U.S. SHIPPING INFO: I ship all records in an exceptionally sturdy padded mailer via USPS media mail with delivery confirmation. This costs $3.90 (including $1.50 for the record mailer) for up to three records, and usually takes 3 to 10 days to arrive. Insurance for media mail is optional; it costs $1.30 for coverage up to $50.00, and $2.20 for coverage up to $100.00.
