PARALLELOGRAMS- LINDA PERHACS / Kapp KS-3636 / 1st Original Release from 1970

The unusual tale of this Linda Perhacs release is briefly told on the page Wikipedia has devoted to Parallelograms :

"Parallelograms is an album by American psychedelic folk singer Linda Perhacs. Her first and, until the release of The Soul of All Natural Things in 2014, only album, it was all but completely ignored when originally released on Kapp Records in 1970. Discouraged by the lack of commercial attention and the label's reluctance to promote the album, Perhacs returned to her career as a dental technician. In the 30 or so years that followed, the album gradually developed a cult following.

"Folk label Wild Places spent two years attempting to find Perhacs before contacting her in 2003, leading to a reissue of Parallelograms on CD and 2-LP in 2005. Sunbeam Records again reissued the album in 2008, adding 2 bonus tracks, including an excerpt of an interview with the BBC.

"The song "Hey, Who Really Cares" was written as the theme song for the short-lived 1970 ABC drama Matt Lincoln, starring Vince Edwards, which ran for a half-season. Perhacs shares writing credit with composer Oliver Nelson, who had been making music for numerous television shows at the time. The song was covered by R&B group The Whispers on their 1971 debut album The Whispers Love Story, and that version would be later sampled by U.S. rap artist The Notorious B.I.G. in his song "Niggas Bleed". Linda's recording was itself sampled by UK rap artist Lowkey in his song "Who Really Cares."

THE VINYL :  Kapp Records was not known for high quality recording methods, and most copies of the original Parallelograms play with some surface noise from the moment they were pressed.

In listening to this pressing, there is some clicking, but it's not a repetitive click anywhere except on the marks I've mentioned below under Side 2.  A good portion plays fairly cleanly. The spindlewear is fairly light, & the surface has a good gloss on it.

Side 1 : EX+ : Seldom played and glossy, there are a small number of very light marks. There are no deep marks.

Side 2 : EX : Also glossy showing little playtime, there are somewhat more light marks than on Side 1. Also present is a 2" moderate scratch starting about halfway through Track 4 ("Porcelain Baked Over Cast-Iron Wedding") and continuing through all of Track 5 ("Delicious").

THE COVER : EX : Faint ringwear with minor scuffing around the ring; the primarily white cover shows some signs of age-related yellowing; a small amount of ink is present in the top left corner of the back cover (see back cover photo); all of the seams are intact; no staining or paper loss. The lyrics are printed on the back.

Included is the original Kapp inner sleeve. We have placed the LP in an audiophile (plastic-lined) inner sleeve to protect its condition
