On January 2, 2023, at ETA in Los Angeles, Jeff Parker and his ETA IVtet, aka Josh Johnson on sax, Anna Butterss on bass and Jay Bellerose on drums, performed what would become a historic set. After holding a weekly residency since 2016, they had developed a reputation for transcendent, long-form improvised music. That evening, which was recorded by Bryce Gonzales, became the centrepiece of Parker's latest release, The Way Out of Easy, which arrives now on limited edition vinyl. Featuring compositions like 'Freakadelic' and 'Late Autumn,' the album captures the band's exploratory, groove-driven style in all its glory. Although ETA closed in December 2023, Parker's music continues to thrive and its spirit lives on through new performances all over the world.
