Description
Simply Stunning Original 1971 Nr Mint U.K. Vertigo Swirl 1st Pressing of the Incredibly Rare 'Hold Your Fire' by Patto!!! Probably The Best Example You Will Ever See of This Very Rare Record! Complete with Mint Swirl Inner!!! The Holy Grail of Any Vertigo Swirl Collection!!!
Here is another gem from my own mostly Nr Mint personal collection (which I am selling off gradually to lessen the pain...) I have been collecting very rare vinyl for a long time now. As a collector, I have been very critical about the condition of the records I have chosen to buy over the years, and only selected the most pristine 1st pressings from all around the UK. My collection is therefore filled with not only the rarest UK 1st pressings, but also records of the highest grade quality condition, some of the best you will probably ever come across. Sadly, all will be finding new homes over the coming months. As I said, I am very strict with my grading, so when I describe a record as Nr Mint - you can rest assured that it will be a true Nr Mint record (I never grade any records as Mint because Mint does not exist in the world of vintage vinyl - in my opinion, as soon as the record has been taken home from the store it is no longer mint!!) I hope you enjoy my listings.
You are bidding on the Massively rare 'Hold Your Fire' by Patto. This is simply one of the rarest ever UK Vertigo Swirl pressings you will ever see, perhaps THE rarest. According to Vertigo folklore, between only 100-150 copies of this record were ever pressed!!! I have found it to be among the the hardest of all UK Vertigo pressings to obtain and have only ever seen one other copy (which was in very poor condition) a long time ago. Which brings me to my second point... As well as being super rare, this record is in STUNNING condition!!! To find a copy of this record in this kind of condition is impossible. Let me explain; the sleeve of this record is very, very delicate, it has 3 fold over flaps that allow the owner to mix-match the cartoon characters on the front. However, the main fault here was the very light weight card that was used. The flaps were very prone to tearing and/or hanging limply, leading also to severe spine deterioration. Most that I have seen on eBay over the years have been in horrific condition and very tatty-looking. However, I am happy to report that this copy is in beautiful condition and has none of these above mentioned faults!!! It is in excellent condition throughout and will probably be the best example that you will see available for purchase over the next year at least!!!
What's more. this record is seen by many as one of the musical high points of the Vertigo spiral era. Whereas some of the rare Vertigo swirlies that we all get so exited about are actually dire to listen too, this Muff Winwood produced album, as well as being one of the rarest, is also absolutely incredible to listen too, and in my opinion, ranks alongside Linda Hoyle's 'Pieces of Me' as the greatest ever Spiral Era Vertigo pressing. It's an awesome record!!! The story of Patto however, is a sad one, with John Halsey being the only surviving member of this wonderful band. If this was the only record ever put out on the Vertigo label, it alone would justify the labels existence. I've gone into a detailed description below, but all you really need to know is that the record is in Nr Mint condition and the fragile sleeve is in impossible Ex condition. This one is well worth pushing the boat out for...
To recap: Of the 100-150 copies of this record that were ever pressed, only a handful can still remain in this kind of condition. This is really a record that needs no hype at all, anyone interested in Vertigo pressings will know how rare and sought-after it is. Please see below for a full description and all that's left to say is good luck - whoever wins this record will be the owner of something very special indeed. Insurance is compulsory with this one.

As you'd expect, the cool 1st press Swirl centre labels are in Stunning Nr Mint condition!!! There are NO Scribbles. NO lifting or Bubbling, NO unwanted writing/scribbles, just the lightest trace of a spindle line on side 2, this record has only ever been played once (at most twice) ever before!!! The labels retain all they original whiteness with no yellowing or grubbiness!!! The gramophone rims containing the all important 1st press matrix are also Mint-.
This vinyl is also in Stunning NR MINT condition - completely blemish-free with absolutely NO marks to the surfaces at all - not even a paper-line, it's as simple as that!!! This disc looks like it came off the master press this morning!!! It has all the deep shine a newly pressed record that as only ever been played once or at the most twice before!!! Impossible for an original UK Vertigo Swirl 1st pressing of this album!!! The record still retains ALL of its original gloss and shine and has NO dulling and NO nasty greying of the grooves!!! I have no hesitation whatsoever with grading this vinyl as a strong Mint-!!! Its as simple as that. It is that most elusive of things, a true Mint- UK Vertigo Swirl 1st pressing of Patto's 'Hold Your Fire'!!! (suitable for the highest grade Mint- Swirl collection - you will not find a better example!!)

Now we get to the incredible gimmixed & un-laminated Marcus Keef-designed sleeve and a stated above, it is one of the best esampls you will ever see!!! As stated above, on the rare occasions these show up they are usually completely worn out. The fragility of this sleeve coupled with Vertigo's policy of not laminating their sleeves during the early 1960's & 70's always leads to these sleeves turning up grubby and worn-out looking today. This one is not!!! It still retains ALL of its original stiffness and BOX SHAPE with very little wear NO wear!!! Importantly, all 3 front flaps fold out perfectly with no damage to the spine and a lovely inner, which is completely unblemished save for some light discolouration!!! The sleeve lies perfectly FLAT with NO RING WEAR and a solid strong spine with MINT legible text!!! The sleeve has NO unwanted writing/scribbles, tape marks etc!!! There is just some light discolouration of the white un-laminated surfaces as is to be expected. I can almost guarantee that you will never see this sleeve in Nr Mint condition, however this will be about as good as you will ever see it and it grades as a solid Excellant condition!!! Anyone familiar with early UK Vertigo sleeves will appreciated how rare an original sleeve in this condition is!! It is a truly outstanding example and easily grades as Excellent, you will not find a better UK 1st press example!!!
Of course, this record comes with its correct and original poly-lined Vertigo Swirl inner sleeve. These also always suffer from horrendous seam splitting and yellowing, and for some reason often become separated from the poly-lining! They also always seem to turn up with at least one split seam (usually the bottom where the record has knifed through) This one is different - this however is a stone cold Mint Vertigo swirl inner sleeve!!! It lies perfectly flat with no seam splits and no nasty creases!!! It retains all its vibrant whiteness and has none of the yellowing common with these inners!!! A stunning example!!! A massively rare UK Vertigo 1st pressing indeed - especially in this condition!!! A great album and a sound investment for the future! Don't Miss!

Postage ... Hazey Jane has absolutely NO hidden surcharges; the price you win is the price you pay, just add the relevant postage, it's as simple as that! We always combine postage so if you win more than 1 auction you save money on postage costs! We will only ship to non-UK countries via Airmail - we do not use surface mail, it is way too slow and thus increases the risk of records being damaged during transit.
A little note about insurance - Please read carefully... If the value of your record(s) is over £30, your invoice will include an insured option. Being the responsible adults you are, it is entirely up to you to take this up - we strongly advise you to do this but will not hassle you about it. You either add the required insurance or you don't. If you do add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will get a refund. If you don't add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will not get a refund. Can we be any clearer? I think not.

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards. If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...
Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.
We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
