VINYL is VG+/NM
Lustrous transparent Deep Blue Vinyl is extremely clean with a few spots of light surface scuff on side 1 (VG+) - some low-level background crackle can be heard on that side, mostly on the last track. Side 2 is NM with no marks and a very clean sound throughout the side. Silver print labels are pristine both sides.

COVER is EX+
Snapping bright and spanking clean with no wear, creases, writing or soil. NM but for one very lightly bumped bottom corner and a spot on lower back that is slightly darker from a cleanly removed sticker (no residue,no  damage to cover surface or any leftover sticker material present, just a faintly darkened area where sticker had been). Seams and spine 100% intact with no wear or splits.

This album is fantastically rare! Moog and Organ collectors search fruitlessly through the decades - as very few were pressed and not at all well distributed outside of the Los Angeles area back when it came out. Only ONE has ever shown up on eBay in the last decade - back in 2012 (that archived, historical listing can still be seen on popsike (search "PAUL BEAVER" "Perchance to Dream").

You may have seen mention of this LP when reading various Beaver and Krause biographies over the years, but no one seemed to actually own a copy or have even ever seen it. And boy, was the information in those online bios about this album wrong: it was claimed that Perchance to Dream was released after Beaver and Krause's last album, the 1972 All Good Men. It wasn’t. (One look at the back cover liner notes would have clued them in: the credits, references, timeline - and the photo of, a very young, Paul Beaver...) it was probably recorded in 1966 and definitely no later than 1967. Also, the fact that these biographies try to place the album’s release shortly after Beaver and Krause’s final LP gives the distinct impression that "Perchance to Dream" will be an electronic or at least a rock recording. It isn’t; it is an amazing organ record, recorded on the Kearns-Carson Wurlitzer pipe organ - as clearly stated on the back cover.

Beaver had already started contributing electronic music to films and TV shows when this came out (and had almost certainly met Krause by the time of Perchance’s release). Yet this is basically theatre and jazz music including standards. There are also two Beaver originals. Still, a definite feel of what was to come for Paul Beaver - strong tastes of "Wild Sanctuary" and "Gandharva", both melodically and in feel and atmosphere run through this LP.

No dates are printed either on cover or label - and this LP is so obscure and unknown that even the ubiquitous online "biographers" clearly had no idea it existed until much later - trying to reconstruct and finding no firm dates for this LP - and with virtually no documentation, references or recording info online for this LP - assumed it was a footnote, rather than a precursor, to his most well-known work of the late 1960's and into the 1970's.

What IS documented is that Paul Beaver played an organ recital performance on the 37-rank Kimball pipe organ at the historic WILTERN THEATRE in Los Angeles in 1966 (at least one online reference to that particular organ performance and one online photo of the program for it - found with one of these LPs - see the 2012 POPSIKE listing) are verified. This LP was most likely issued right around the same time, or just prior to that performance at The Wiltern.


BACK COVER bio notes seem to be basically introducing Paul Beaver as a new name to the public-at-large - with NO mention of ANY previous recordings issued under his own name - or with Bernie Krause. (SEE PHOTOs #4 and 5 for complete notes). Much, though, is made in these liner notes of: "Recently, in addition to his composing and publishing arrangements for organ, he has been very active in recording for television and motion-picture studios. Special electronic instruments of his own invention and construction have been featured in recent films such as DR. ZHIVAGO, THE SLENDER THREAD, HARPER, HAWAII, THE WORLD OF COUSTEAU and THE PROFESSIONALS". (*These films all came out in 1965 and 1966 - while NO mention of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE is made; his influential recording with Lalo Schiffrin on that seminal soundtrack came out in 1967.) ...further liner notes here state merely: "He has been identified with organ and percussions, playing with groups in the well-known jazz-meccas."  Finally it states: "His latest achievement has been his very successful career as an organ soloist".

A few astute, experienced collectors will no doubt also recognize that this EXACT SAME COVER ART Design also appeared on other 1960's vanity press albums (I personally have one Black GOSPEL album and one Middle-Eastern OUD - at a Fresno, CA nightclub - album with this same "balloons" front cover art and only the black text being different).

Very scarce, obscure and intriguing album here from Paul Beaver, a 'missing link' in the development and career of a fascinating artist who left us too soon.
